I am most disappointed Pearl Jam fan... actually a really fucking pissed one to be honest! I bought, in good faith, a copy of theior newest album and I found my biggest disappointment wasn't in the band, the artwork, the sound, the songs or anything.... au contraire, I haven't even heard the music. My disc was terminally fucked by a dent in it, that went right through to the metal disc foil itself... and my dumbass self threw out the plastic wrap, so no chance of exchanging it i am afraid...
SO, since i have bought the album and the royalties have safely reached Pearl Jam's account - won't someone feel nice to send me a burn? I would be happy to exchange a mix CD with you, or any request for a swap? Maybe you hated the new one and want to offload your copy, I don't mind... just someone help me HEAR THIS CD WHICH I PAID FOR! AHHHH!!!

Bummer. If I were you I'd go right back to the record store where I got it from and complain anyway. It's worth a shot. Maybe it was a shitty batch and others have returned theirs too? Or you could say it was a gift and whoever gave it to you threw out the receipt.

Why don't you just download it and get your fix? Until someone sends you a 'legit' burn that is.
If you don't do the 'download' thing, I could upload you a copy of it on yousendit. I only have it in mp3 format myself.

So how does the whole "yousendit" thing work? Is it a site you go to? 'scuse my ignorance about it all - I have plenty of blank discs if I can get Mp3 copies for all the tracks - I can then make my own (working) copy... :-)

Cool. Go over to www.yousendit.com and open an account. If that email address in your profile is valid, you'll be receiving the link there once it's uploaded. Just click on the link to download it. That's it. I'll also PM you the link here just in case that email isn't valid.

I'll think about doing it! Generally not certain about the whole mp3 downloading thing how safe it is, etc etc... worth a thought though!

mp3's are safe from what I know. Besides, I've got great anti-virus software so if there was anything wrong with the files, I'd know about.

Scottsy, if the mp3 thing doesn't work out for you, I actually already have a burned copy sitting around somewhere. When the album was released, a friend of mine sent me a burned copy, but then I ended up buying it anyway a few weeks later. I'd be happy to send you that burned copy, if you'd like.

It sucks that this is their only scheduled US gig this summer. Last tour was great, and the band played with a lot of fire and energy, but they completely gave the middle finger to the Southern US. They didn't play Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, New Orleans, or any other major Southern city. I was hoping for a small mini tour of the South this summer, similar to what they did in Canada in 2005. Oh well, guess I gotta wait until the next album for another tour.

I dusted off my copy of "avocado" and gave it another spin, and it was jaw droppingly intense, gorgeous, harrowing heartfelt fucking rock and roll. God damn .. .
... and it made me realize something.
It put the rest of their catalogue into perspective, for me.
I don't really think of this latest album of theirs, this self-titled official 8th Studio album, as being a "return to form" in any way really, and that is because, putting it quite simply and directly: Pearl Jam never once lost their form dammit.
Seriously, though: I've decided I'm tired of all this lazy criticism which for some reason insists on finding fault with some arc of their career. For instance, folks will grumble about "Riot Act", or if not that one, about "Binaural", or if not that one, "Yield", etc.
Well I got news for those of you who think they may have fumbled the ball with "Riot Act", or any of their albums, for that matter.
What we really have here is a superlative band that consistently release stellar albums, period. "Riot Act" is a fucking masterpiece, straight up. My honest belief (and I'm being as discriminating as I can here) is that the album Riot Act will emerge many years in the future as the amazing work of sonic architecture it is, replete with haunting ballads, stellar musicianship, piercing and relevant lyrics, amazing vocals, which all result in an album so far beyond the capacity of most other bands that looking back in retrospect at some of these skewering reviews of it will result in a "LOL, what were we thinking" back-pedalling.
So what I'm trying to say here is quite simple:
Self -Titled is NOT a "return to form", not even by a long shot. What it IS is simply yet another fucking album knocked out of the rock'n'roll park by the greatest all around American rock band to ever emerge from our heartland.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Hot damn thorRns! I think you just may like Pearl Jam more that I do I too believe that PJ is the greatest, and most heart felt American band around today, but I do have trouble getting into Riot Act. I gotta admit, some songs have grown on me, such as "1/2 Full" - the ending jam on that song is incredible. Also, one of my favorite PJ songs (probably top 20 for me) is "Can't Keep". I love how that song builds up all this tension, but never fully releases it. It's frustrating, but brilliant at the same time. I really dig "Ghost" as well. It seems most PJ fans hate that song, but I think it flat out rocks - if you know guitar at all, it's a G,B,E chord progression....pretty simple but damn if it doesn't sound good. The real gem on that album for me though is "Green Disease" - to me, I was super surprised to hear PJ do a song like that. It's certainly not like anything they've done before, and it kinda reminds me of late 80's alt rock or something. Anyway, I guess the point is that Riot Act isn't as bad as folks make it out to be, but IMHO, it's no Vitalogy, No Code, Binaural, or Avocado. Oh yeah, plus I gotta disagree w/ you about the vocals on Riot Act. I think amazing is a bit strong...to me, Vedder sounds a little bored w/ some of the songs and doesn't let his angry growl out, or his melodic/somber/reflective voice out at all like he does "Life Wasted" or "Off He Goes"

So thoRns, what are some of your favorite PJ songs - like a top 20? I'm sure I've done this before, but I don't know what I put down, and now that Avocado is out there, whatever list I had is irrelevant. Actually, anyone who feels like answering, I'd be curious to see. I need to contemplate mine a bit, but this is for ALL Pearl Jam songs, even the stuff from Lost Dogs, Merkin Ball, etc...
