track 3. moment of surrender
very moody strings open it more hand claps is this spritualized??? playing with the fire till the fire played with me mid tempo think bruce's streets of philadelphia chorus kicks in sounds gospel now bono is singing his ass off there's a rawness i don 't recall i've heard him do before my body is begging to get back to my heart to the bottom of my soul this song seems to be about accepting yourself for what you are and shutting out the rest and a slick piano solo before edge's solo which sounds more john mayer than edge this track is 7 min and sounds like church music and then more oh' oh oh's to close nice track to end the live show with before an encore this feels like a grower 3 for 3 ;D ;D

track 4 Unknown Caller
sounds like the begining of Bad birds chirping tribal drums bono in lemon voice sunshine sunshine great 2 min intro with more oh's ohs this is 6 min long as well speed dialing with no signal at all is the whole band singing in harmonies? this sounds really cool has an anthemic quality most signiture edge guitar sound so far lot of short burst of lyrics shout it out quality than an organ/horn lots of chimes and nasty u2 toned solo from edge on the way out song seems about somebody getting texts from an unknown caller very arcade fire in the singing ESCAPE YOURSELF FROM GRAVITY REBOOT YOURSELF that was awesome i will be listening to this a lot in traffic in my car

track 5 . I'll go Crazy if I don't Crazy Tonightevery beauty needs to go out with an idiot sounds like an classic u2 pop song bono and the group are in unison again the right to be ridiculous is something i hold dearwere going make it to the light bono says synth solo then edge traditional solos very simple u2 very wordy song with bono's desire to have fun and reach the light so he's gonna go crazy tonight not as uptempo crazy as prince did before you can hear how they are having fun playing this this would have felt right at home on all that you can't leave behindanother positive uplifting feel the word that comes to mind is JOY yet another SINGLE I hear

Track 6. Get on Your Boots well we all have our opinons of this right now i like it but feel much like vertigo it's solid u2 but not the greatest thing they have done but after how great the first 5 tracks are on this album it doesn't sound out of place either so 3:25 later you do see how bono is taking a piss on himself by not taking himself too serious on this album and is having a great time being 2 pac when it comes to reality vs contradiction in the next line of the song but hey guess what track will follow vertigo live on the set list good track always reminds me a little of how mysterious ways struck me on achtung baby good single by compared to the album not even close to the standout

Track 7. Stand Up Comedy
Big jimmy page riff and then beatles like chorus i gotta stand up to my ego but my ego is not really the enemy makes you wanna bob your heads as bono seems to wanna shout out to the world we need to stand up for our ideals this is how i would imagine u2 should sound to start a world riot in 2009 go knows we need it it's there version of so you wanna revolution bono would make john lennon proud on this track the wire is streached between our 2 towers as we need to stand up for our love STOP ,HELP AND GOD ACROSS LIKE A LITTLE OLD LADY THIS IS THE SHIT and man is this FUNKY GOD IS LOVE AND REVOLUTION IS LOVE listening a 2nd time ;D ;D STAND UP TO THE ROCK STARS NAPOLEON IS IN HIGH HEELS bono continues to make fun of himself I wanna see this one live

Track 8. White As Snow
unforgetable fire slow burn open with organ/horns bono in top voice faces as pale as the dirty snow again very sgt peppers arrangement interesting guitar songs maybe a mandolin as well song could be about africa refrences tall moutains ,crops, and a crescent moon where will we find a land as white as snow very chill by a fireplace but in simple terms it's a folk song nice change of pace duet for bono/edge

track 9. Fez Being Born
brian eno is in the building 1 min. instrumental with loops of bono repeating let me in the sound before a big guitar blows the whole track out passengers era u2 sound yeah i'm a fan bono singing about rebirth and oceans one more time very uplifting in sound background sounds like the who's eminence front also i'd like to point out a 5 min track as well lyrics were overpowered by the sound of flight nice track after the restrait of white as snow

Track 10. Breathe
Pearl Jam Once but happier tribal drums again feedback bono goes bob dylan tombstone lyrics why would i invite a complete stranger into my home would you? big anthem this is as bombastic as i have heard on this album but the lennon/dylan delivery of the lyrics seperates it as bono declares WALK OUT /INTO THE STREET SING YOUR HEART OUT TO THE PEOPLE YOU MEET/ THEY WILL NOT BE DROWNED OUT /THERE'S NOTHING YOU HAVE THAT I NEED / BREEEEEATHHEEEE it reminds me of oasis acquiesce in melody bono seems to be on a kick on this album about sound and rebirth love the strings and then the solo and with one song left this album feels like a awakening to just how diverse bono vocally can be IT'S POWERFUL AS THE MESSAGES HE sings about u2 can send me home from the show with this one so i can feel that spritual high of communion on the way home maybe my favorite track

Track 11. Cedars of Lebanon
bono is telling a story with very little instrument other than a military drum and edge slow licks bono in spoken word something about being a reporter looking at pictures in lebanon return the call to home is as close to the chorus as you will get here this is that experimental u2 close not on the last 2 albums i got a head like a lit cigerette choose your enemies carefully they will define you the last line is gonna last with you longer than your friends and that's it the album is over
i see there's a b-side a dance version of no line listed here as well changes the song into elevation it sounds like

so that's it for first listen I really enjoy this record it's a real album and u2 have shown me they have some new tricks mainly bono can do whatever he wants with his voice i personally feel u2 fans will split on if this measures up to their best work this decade and i can't say but i definitley will have this on repeat for the time being it feels like a perfect oppurtunity for this kind of stand up for the revolution kids album i really feel there was not a single weak track on it and i feel the same way about how to dismantle/all that you can't this is a band that is pushing thing foward but winking at their past my top 5 tonight 1. Stand Up Comedy 2. Breathe 3. Unknown Caller 4. Magnifcent 5.Moment of Surrender

That's not a review- that's a love declaration.
Have heard the album twice now, am still making sense of most of it.

pattentank: I appreciate your posts as well! I am really glad you are digging it! I hope it happens to me. I hope I can dig it too. Its gonna take me awhile. To be honest I felt OLD when I listened to it.
The following has nothing to do with being negative....
I am still making sense of it myself. I actually BOUGHT it. And have listened to it twice so far. So any of the s*&t I talk I have a right too. Im paying for Bono's sunglasses or the cover art or something. (for some reason I felt really bad that I bought it but I love U2 so F- it you know) I am not truly negative at heart and find myself enjoying their last couple albums in time. (All That You Can't Leave Behind" is ACTUALLY a really good album- Musicians age, things aren't quite the same, you know? You can't make BOY or the Joshua Tree again. I completely understand that. But cmon man.
I was like "wtf is this s&^t" when I heard "Get On your Boots" "My humps" is what I heard in my head.
I don't know. I will give it a week. I just remember telling my better half "Remember when they used to write songs like "One" --and she just said "you just need to buy some sexy boots." go figure. The rest of it sounds just OK right now....But "Get Your Boots On" is a black pit for me. Can't get down. The video with the sound down is alright.
good friend told me this got 5 stars in Rolling Stone--is that true? I know that does not matter in the least....
Like I said, still too soon to know. POP grew on me (and even though its not a earth moving album it has "If God Will Send His Angels" on it--so hey.)
