geez, i really wish i knew their e-mails... you guys always talked so much about so many things. i always felt left out and like a reject though because i tend to make shorter posts that can be a little edgy (not as in the edge) rather than detailed. in fact, i think some people tried to ignore me. haha. i remember one dude got me into the clash and i thanked him for that and he never even responded.
on the subject of U2, the albums i own are...
Boy The Unforgettable Fire The Joshua Tree Achtung Baby Zooropa Pop All That You Can't Leave Behind
do you know how many u2 studio records there are? i think it's somewhere around 14-16, but i'm not sure. wanna collect 'em all.
i bought pop just a few days ago, and despite what people said about it, i think it's great. something about "staring at the sun" is hypnotizing... but really, bono in general is hypnotizing. even people who can't stand u2 respect bono's vocals. he's powerful in so many ways... from "i will follow" to "grace" (betcha know why i singled out those two).

I wouldn’t take it personally if a particular post doesn’t elicit a response, proud. A lot a people around here are doing this on the fly while they go about work, school, their daily business, etc. etc. As a consequence, stuff gets missed sometimes – I know I do it all the time, especially with this format. Sometimes by the time you do notice a particular item you want to comment on, the moment’s passed. Pretty decent crew here, all in all, on all the boards. I’m sure no one was intentionally trying to sideline you.
All That You Can’t Leave Behind was actually only U2’s tenth studio album, if you count Rattle and Hum. The complete list is as follows:
1. Boy (1980) 2. October (1981) 3. War (1983) 4. The Unforgettable Fire (1984) 5. The Joshua Tree (1987) 6. Rattle and Hum (1988) 7. Achtung Baby (1991) 8. Zooropa (1993) 9. Pop (1997) 10. All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000)
U2 also did a studio album with Brian Eno as a full band member issued as Original Soundtracks, Vol. I under the name "The Passengers". So, ten/eleven studio albums in 25 years. Not the most prolific band in the world, although, pretty much par for the course these days.

(extremely late response) thanks for all the info, sir! but now i have more info...
Source: Billboard.com
U2's as-yet-untitled new studio album will be released Nov. 22 internationally and a day later in North America via Interscope. First single "Vertigo" will hit radio in late September, to be followed by a video. A commercial single is tentatively due for a Nov. 8 international release.
A spokesperson for the band's U.K.-based Principle Management says the information is "broadly correct" but would not confirm specific details.
Even though a disc featuring album tracks was reported stolen during a photo shoot last month in France, few details have emerged about the set. Among the song titles mentioned in recent comments by band members are "Tough" and "Full Metal Jacket."
Author/band friend Neil McCormick recently told Ireland's Hot Press magazine that the album featured "an interesting title, an interesting philosophical idea as a title, and quite a difficult title."
As first reported here in February, production was handled by Steve Lillywhite, who has worked on such past U2 albums as "The Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby."
The upcoming release will be the follow-up to 2000's "All That You Can't Leave Behind," which has sold more than 4 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. A world tour is expected to launch early next year.
Preceding the album will be the photo book "U2 Show: The Art of Touring," due Oct. 21 via Riverhead Books. More than 400 rare photographs and illustrations appear in the volume, which chronicles the band's live performance history.

A friend of mine just sent me a link which has a few snippets from the upcoming U2 album if any of you are interested. www.elfyx.net/files/yuiop/The first single "Vertigo" is the last file with "2004" in the title. It's about 1.26 mins long but let me warn you the sound quality here is pretty bad. Apparently it was recorded by Spanish tourists hanging outside Bono's house so you also hear their voices and the waves crashing on the beach... It sounds like one hell of a tune! BTW, I think "Pop" is a great album. Much better than ATYCLB if you ask me...

U2 ALBUM TITLE REVEALED
U2 have titled their new album ’HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB’, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.
The title has long been rumoured on various fan websites and forums, but NME.COM has today (September 13) been given official confirmation from the band.
The album, the follow-up to ’All That You Can’t Leave Behind’ is released on November 22.
Some of the songs on the album include forthcoming single ’Vertigo’, ’Man And A Woman’, ’Yahweh’, ’Crumbs From Your Table’ and ’City Of Blinding Lights’.
’Vertigo’ will be released as a single on November 8 and will feature a cover of Kraftwerk’s ‘Neon Lights’.
The song was recorded at Hanover Keys studio in Dublin and produced by Steve Lillywhite.
Other B-sides are new song ‘Are You Gonna Wait Forever?’, and a remix of the title track by Jacknife Lee. The single will come out on two CDs and DVD single, featuring a video for the song.
The Irish group are also planning a massive world tour to promote ’How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’, starting early next year.

freeweb.siol.net/blazomar/vertigo.mp3 <-- vertigo! sounds fun, and unlike some recent u2 singles... it's not overproduced. i can't really compare it to other songs though, because it's unlike anything they've ever done... but it's very catchy, and has a singalong chorus. i expect commercial audiences to eat it up.

Yeah, I was going to ask what people thought of it. I don’t think it’s a great U2 track or anything but in terms of catching people’s ear and reeling them in, it works pretty well. Catchy track – people will be humming it after their first listen.

A nice track. Nothing instantly classic, but solid. Course I really liked the All That You Can't Leave Behind as well, even if they were very polished.

I haven't heard Vertigo, but Mellie said she heard it the other day at her work and it didn't make a particularly great impression on her...
This doesn't mean the album will be a bad one of course!
Anyone's thoughts on how it will compare with All That You Can't Leave Behind??!!
I'm full of questions on these boards tonight.... :- ) :-) :-)

I'm surprised you haven't heard 'Vertigo' yet Scottsy. I think it's a great 'rocker', even though it is already a tad bit overplayed in these parts. I would say it sounds like 'Boy'/'War' era U2. Especially the breakdown, vintage Edge there.
I hope this new album is much, much better than All That You Can't Leave Behind which had a great opener and then went downhill from there. They sounded like they were really ageing on that one and totally bored out of their brains. I still can't believe that album did so much better than 'Pop'. I suppose the multiple Grammys helped its sales.
The new record is being hyped as their best since Achtung Baby. Bono has said in an interview that is probably their second best album ever, perhaps even the best, right up there with 'Achtung'. I suppose it remains to be seen/heard...
