Achtung sure takes some beating though! That thing is a classic... if people are saying it's up there with it though.... its definitely work a look in!
They aren't playing the new single on Triple J, which is where most of radio listening is done, I guess... I just can't STAND commercial radio, it drives me bonkers!
To be honest even Triple J isn't all that good anymore... but at least you don't have to sit through a whole pile of crap ads that have no relevance to you, nor do you have bloody idiot DJs you'd just wish would shut up and stop trying to be a celebrity themselves and play the bloody music!!!
Arrrrrrrrrghhhhh!!! Commercial Radio raaaaaaggggeeee!!!

"Vertigo" has been growing on me since it came out – pretty solid tune, actually. Of course, I don’t listen to the radio, so maybe if you’re hearing it six times a day, it does wear a little thin. In any event, right now it's given me hope that they have (IMHO) recovered from ATYCLB and I’ve gone from mildly fearing to actually looking forward to the new one.
Kinda like their cover of "Neon Lights", too.

Yeah, I have it. They remain squarely in the mainstream on this record, basically alternating between being INXS and (Christ save me) Oasis. Umpteen different producers on the record and similar to ATYCLB it plays more like a collection of songs than an album. But I really like it all the same – the songs are really there this time and a few em' even manage to send a tingle or two up the ol' spine. Edge sounds magnificent.

Vertigo- is not a favorite but the 2nd single(City of Blinding Lights) reminds so much of Where The Streets I get my promo the 16th looking foward to hearing it
Bono claims it's their best since Joshua Tree,I can Hope ;D ;D

That's a pretty hefty claim, since Joshua Tree is a classic and they'd still yet to produce their true masterpiece, that being Achtung Baby! :-)
I'll at least have to listen to the new U2, I will probablt cave in and buy it, just to be the completist that I am.... hopefully to top it all off it's a good album!

I wouldn’t say HTDAAB is as good as The Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby but it’s a good record. A little on the conservative side, but much better than ATYCLB.
"City of Blinding Lights" is very nice – classic U2 sound.

I am streaming the album from nme.com/audio. I've heard it about three times so far and I have to say, I really like what I hear, especially after being so disappointed with atyclb. Much, much better album. I can't make the joshua/achtung comparisons yet, I remember when I first bought Achtung, even though I loved it, I didn't think it was better than Joshua. At least not at first. It took me about a year or so before I could say without a doubt it was their best ever. U2 albums are like wine. They either get better with age (achtung, zooropa) or just turn to vinegar (atyclb). Favourite tracks so far: Miracle Drug All Because of You City of Blinding Lights Crumbs from Your Table That list might change after I buy the album next week and listen to it a few times. All I can say for now is, so far... so good. BTW, nme.com also features the UK only bonus track "Fast Cars". Pretty dumb decision to exclude it from the worldwide release since it's actually a fine track.

Yeah, I have it. They remain squarely in the mainstream on this record, basically alternating between being INXS and (Christ save me) Oasis. When I first read that, I thought 'Oasis? How can that be?' But then I heard "Original of the Species". I'm not sure if it's the same song you're talking about. The intro with the string section reminded me instantly of the Oasis song "Whatever"... although it goes on to become a much better song than that one. Besides, wasn't "Whatever" a "Strawberry Fields" rip-off to begin with? So who's stealing from who here?

I really am not liking Vertigo... it just seems, I dunno, quite week lyrically, and not overly wonderful musically... I dunno if I will desperately seeking a copy of the new one - I tried to like Vertigo... it just didn't fly!

It took me about a year or so before I could say without a doubt it was their best ever. U2 albums are like wine. They either get better with age (achtung, zooropa) or just turn to vinegar (atyclb). I had similar experiences with both The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. In particular with AB; it was a good six months to a year before I agreed with the general consensus on that one. When I first read that, I thought 'Oasis? How can that be?' But then I heard "Original of the Species". When I mentioned Oasis, I was actually thinking of the stomp of "All Because of You" which to me is totally descended from them – that big, square wall o' rhythm that just sits in the same place for the whole song. Though I’d agree with you that the Beatle-isms of "Original" are definitely a connection, too. And then, of course, Bono has already mentioned that he got the line "one step closer to knowing" from Noel Gallagher. Bono, buddy, you’ve gotta get out a little more! "Fast Cars", I dunno, seems a bit of a throwaway. "Vertigo" to me sits in a line with "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me", "Discotheque" and "Elevation". They get progressively less clever, but they all have the same sort of flippancy. All surface but I like the track.

I've listened to the new album 2x now and can safely say I't worth buying Miracle Drug stands out right now but the most amazing song isn't even on the album
"Mercy" just jawdropping in that they didn't somehow hide this as a hidden track I must have played this song 12x in the last two days I would seek it out if you haven't heard it
Bono-"It's the best b-side we have ever done I wish we could have found a spot for it on the album"(quote on the back of my promo,it's a seperate disc)
