I bought the album yesterday. I think it's their best since "Achtung Baby"... although it is much too early to say whether this is equally as good as that or the Joshua Tree. So far, it's my 3rd favourite U2 album and it's getting better and better with every spin. "Vertigo" was a very misleading first single and the album as a whole shouldn't be judged by that song alone. Unfortunately, I "had" to buy the limited edition with the stupid book just so I could also get the bonus track "Fast Cars". The other two versions only had the standard 11. I should've just downloaded the damn thing. Warning: The book does not include lyrics! (Not sure if the other formats do). It's just got stupid polaroids, scribbles and 'hand-written' notes from Bono. I had no idea such a great lyricist could be such a bad speller. NP: "Love And Peace Or Else" - U2

I heard they filmed a video for "All Because of You" the other day. Why would they release that as the second single? Not that it's a bad track, but I thought after 'Vertigo' they'd go with something a little different like "City..." or "Crumbs from Your Table". They should've saved that and realeased it as a single during the tour. I love the guitars in that though. BTW, I'm already sick of hearing people say that "A Man And A Woman" is throwaway. It's anything but. It has one the best basslines on the album. So what if it sounds a bit like a Fleetwood Mac song? That's not such a bad thing is it?

I'm not too anxious about this one I am afraid...
Claims of "best since Achtung Baby" usually scare me away...lol.... nothing is topping that album for U2, I am afraid, that was their creative peak... this new one has me worried from all the things I have read about it.
Maybe I'm just sick to the back teeth of Bono... he grates on me these days. Seems to have gone from ham fisted freedom fighter to self righteous git... I have a feeling it's his persona of the last few years thats really put me off U2... just seems too bombastic, full of himself and his own importance to convince me.

"Best since Achtung Baby" would put it on a plane above Zooropa, which I’m afraid is not the case... It’s a good, if quite conservative U2 record but I guess that’s where the band is at these days.
As for our man Bono, I’ll defend the guy to the ends of the earth. He’s got a monster ego, no two ways about it, but there’s no real crime in a rock star having a big ego, is there? And I don’t see him as full of himself or self-righteous – indeed, quite the contrary. I think he’s completely sincere in his advocacy work and entirely conscious of the contradictions of being a pop star/activist.

Fair enough! He probably does genuinely believe in what he stands for, maybe i was going too far...
I think he has been rather overexposed, and I might be tiring of his public persona quite a bit.

After a few listens the new album is pretty strong, right with ATYCLB, which I really like. I don't care much for "City of Blinding Lights" though.

i've only listened to the album a little bit (and only the first 6 or 7 songs). i don't really have an opinion either way, because it all kind of blends in to me, other than the obvious (the single). maybe i'll be able to differentiate with some time...

This seems just silly (though in a sense, poetic, I suppose, considering the history) but whenever U2’s and Negativland’s names appear on the 'same page' the proverbial sparks fly, it would seem. EBay Negative on Negativland Ipod EBay removed a modified U2 iPod from its auctions Monday after Apple Computer complained of copyright violations, to the wonder of several intellectual-property attorneys. www.wired.com/news/digiwood/0,1412,65959,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_2

hi all...just finished today first iteration of listening to new U2 and it ain't bad..it doesn't overwhelm me, and actually I found ATYCLB left a more initial favorable impresssion, but overall I think it is a work that continues to do justice to U2's expansive cannon......and though most of the critics have loathed Yawheh, I actually think it's a fairly good song.........I love that one song that states "you look so beautiful tonight".....very romantic...

Having my first listen to HTDAAB tonight.... and hey it's not sounding half bad, if a little too much like U2. I think U2 always excited me more when they were out on a voyage of discovery, thats what attracted me to Achtung Baby, Zooropa and even the (very wrongly) lambasted Pop. ATYCLB won me over on the strength of the songs and the emotional power of performance... If I have any criticisms of this new one is that it's sounding a little "too" U2 and although there's more of a rocking spirit to it than ATYCLB, it feels very U2...
That being said I am four tracks in and its certainly impressed me more than Vertigo suggested to me... :-)
