I think the verse in question is pretty familiar to everyone here ... or at least it should be. You are talking about the verse that formed the basis of the Byrds' classic "Turn, Turn, Turn" aren't you Chrisfan?
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to laugh, a time to cry ...

You're a Methodist, Chrisfan? I was raised in the Methodist church. Didn't take, of course, but if I had to sit through a service, I'd still prefer Methodism over pretty much other kind of Christianity.
Of course the Methodist churches I attended were exceptionally tolerant ... I used to joke that our version of the Lord's Prayer would begin:
Our father (or mother) who art in heaven (or anywhere else), hallowed be thy name (whatever it may be).

Anyway, forgive me Chrisfan for hollerin off the top of my soapbox, I was venting...
And "who am I", right -?-- when I don't even profess to "be" a Christian .. . So I hear ya. . . (It's just that, I don't happen to share the view that "being a proper Christian" and "knowing your Bible inside out" necessarily equate to the same thing, is all.) *shrug*
But I'm off the soapbox now, so no worries!

TYVM, Strat-0. I was praying (heh-heh) that there had to somebody out there with the balls to not just let this go: Our troops ARE NO BETTER than the brown bombers. Forgive the brown bombers, for they know not what they do. Then there's this: After all, I am merely trying to discover the truth, whereas everything you seem to support indicates that YOU ALREADY HAVE DISCOVERED THE TRUTH. Well, you seem pretty certain of yourself there. I don't think it's a stretch to say the truth is that we ARE better than the brown bombers. How is it you have still not discovered that? We at least tried diplomacy with Saddam, and guess what--if it doesn't work with him, it sure as fuck doesn't work with these other crazed FUNDAMENTALISTS! But they do indeed know damn well what they're doing. No matter how misguided you may be, you don't fly two planes into the Twin Towers and another into the Pentagon on accident. That takes a little bit o' fuckin' planning! And I ain't "silencing" your speech, haha, methinks what's really going on here is I have merely put forth some reasonable observations and you're at such a loss as to how to clearly refute them, that you instead resort to going on the defensive, attacking me "back" (forgetting all the while it is not YOU I have attacked), and trying your damndest to discredit me with whatever arsenal you happen to have at your disposal. Which, thankfully for me, ain't much. Touche. All you can come up with is your anti-Christian rhetoric--citing whatever is convenient to you to make Christians look bad. Why don't you just deal with what's going on in the real world instead of subscribing to this ideal that we should all just turn the other cheek and love the terrorists who want to kill us and bring our country down? Man might have been made in God's image and in a perfect world, it would be ideal to model our behavior after Jesus' but we're not perfect like Jesus either. Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross for the greater good of mankind. What greater good would be served if we just stretched our necks out for the terrorists so they can cut off our heads? You think God wants evil to slay good? What about David and Goliath? So our defending ourselves (or avenging ourselves as you like to say, but God Himself is a vengeful god, lest you forget) means that we're bringing ourselves down to the terrorists' level and have no more morals than they do. Please, Thorn, grow some perspective.

Thorn, I hope that someday, you will enjoy the amazement that can come from actually knowing people. If I were to sit down and count, I am quite confident that I could confirm that the number of things you've assumed wrong about me outweigh the correct assumptions you've made about me by about 10:1. If you're that dense when it comes to figuring me out, I can only assume you totally miss the mark on others as well. Honestly - PLEASE stop talking about me. Please stop talking about Christianity. You're making yourself sound stupider and stupider the more you go.

Please, Thorn, grow some perspective. How can you even call what he says anti-Christian, when he hasn't a clue what a Christian is? He's not speaking out against Christians. He's speaking out against some sort of weird cult of peacenik hippies who follow some guy who claims to know the teachings of Christ, but only is vaguely familiar with a few passages from the bible as they've been reported to him through word of mouth.

*sigh*
Because, Art, I believe the reason we got into this mess in the first place was from not listening to those very PROTOCOLS you SUPPOSEDLY believed/believe in.
What don't YOU get about that?
"Well, Jesus said to remember always to empty out the porta-John"
*porta jon keeps filling*
*people keep using the porta john*
*porta john fills to overflowing*
"WTF?! Who let all this SHIT pile up???"
*meekly*: "Well, Jesus DID say we should've emptied it out ever once in a while"
"IT'S THE TERRORISTS! KILL EM ALL DAMMIT! YOU DON'T JUST FILL UP A PORTAJOHN TO OVERFLOWIN LIKE THAT!*

Now, It Really CAN'T get any simpler than this, and I'll repeat:
I believe the reason we got into this mess in the first place was from not listening to those very PROTOCOLS you SUPPOSEDLY believed/believe in.
That is what I believe, m'k? It's simple. Straightforward. Practical. Easy to understand. I will not stoop so low as to explain it to you. If you can't see what I MEAN by that, then you go your way, I'll go mine. sweet
