Oh Milwaukee in the winter would be entirely inappropriate for Aussie Rules... you'd have to have it in the spring or fall... which is either during the beginning of the season or close to the end of the season, or smack bang in post - season trip time, which is when most players can't be assed playing the game for a few months... hahahahaha!
GREAT win by the Power over the Kangaroos today! Anyone would have written them off... their bogey side, at their bogey ground... but there ya go, they won and won convincingly!
Given the Adelaide Crows loss last night, and Port Adelaide Power's win today.... they are now completely neck and neck in the finals race.... this is indeed very entertaining to someone whose team has been constantly scrutinised whilst the other team in town has been constantly talked up and praised... I find it ironically funny and very cool indeed...
Now it seems Port Adelaide and Adelaide will play off, in Adelaide's AAMI stadium... a place that gives NO homeground advantage to Adelaide Footy clud whatsoever...
It's going to be a VERY interesting week of rivalry in this city... Crows fans hate the Power, and Power fans feel the same about the Crows... expect outright bloodshed in workplaces across Adelaide! :-)

It's already billed as the biggest match in SA-AFL-history. The build-up's already huge. Both teams seem at this stage so evenly matched. I was very surprised how the Saints ripped open the Crows-defence. But with Riciuto back the Crows might grow a bit more spine. For your sake, Scottsy, I hope Port can keep that momentum but jeez, the last derby was a disaster.. After the absolutely disgraceful screwjob those umpires did to Sydney in the fourth quarter, they now have to take the long road to the finals and a do or die-match against the Cats. The SCG does represent homeground-advantage, even though you could sell out Telstra easily. (Weird though how each year the NRL and AFL seem to throw up some sort of conflict of interest over one stadium.) They were pretty good against the Eag;es last week but they seem to lose these low-scoring scrap a bit too often. Fortunately the Cats are a team right up their sleeve- not much experience and a lot of exuberance for sure but if one team has been inconsistent, it's been Geelong. The Swans for mine by plenty. One thing is good to see: this year the dominant status of the MCG has been toppled in favour of the out-of-Victoria-homegrounds- well, that's what you get if Melbourne-based teams get flogged by the foreigners every year You'd tip a Melbourne-team that way any day of the week. Anyway, I'll tip the Swans and Port this week.

Great! The Swans in the finals, meeting the Eagles! Should be a cracker.

Should be a great game! Just bloody thankful that it's not Crows and Sydney! This city would be unbearable if the Crows had made the Grand Final... Crows fans are generally only stomach - able at the best of times... hehehehehehehe!!!
I'm actually keeping a bit of a soft spot for the Sydney Swans... I'd like to see 'em take it... they deserve it, having never won a premiership as the Sydney Swans before, and as the former South Melbourne footy club... they last won in 1933 or something like that... I'd like to see 'em do it this year!

Well, to finish this board off for the year- what a stunning finale! And I'm so happy Sydney won it in the end.
It must have irked the Victorians that a NSW-team would eventually take the flag and continue the dominance of non-Vic-teams in this Melburnite sport. Especially arch enemy Sydney! the glee of Melbourne after their rugby league-team won the NRL Grand Final in 1999 wasn't forgotten- they've gotten it back with interest.
I watched the match and boy, was it a thriller. You gotta feel for the Eagles- 10 points up after being dominating in the first and third quarters and with only 15 minutes to go, Sydney looked gone...but for that snap goal by Amon Buchanan and 'that mark' by Leo Barry. You wouldn't believe the legendary status that particular play got down here. It was doomed to be a scrap from the beginning though, even after every commentator gave raps to both midfield for free-flowing and fast movement. It's like they also say in rugby and soccer 'defense wins you grand matches'. No denying that the defense was tough and bodies flung more voluntarily everywhere than in the restaurant scene in Kill Bill. No wonder that tough American Footballers like William Perry dubbed these players 'crazy'.
And now I'm watching the replay of the parade and I'm so glad this team got the accolades it deserves. Now I'm hoping the Tigers can take out the NRL Grand Final this Sunday and NSW can boast that it rules the major competitions this year...as if its head wasn't big enough already!

It's funny though, the Melbourniteswere really desperate to claim a victory with the Sydney win.... notice how much they kept referring to the South Melbourne roots of the club... that cracked me up!!!
A great and deserved win for the swannies this year! It was their turn after so many close calls! In a game that had it's fair share of thrills and close calls itself! Bloody nailbiter it was! A well deserved win indeed!

Well it's season 2006 and no one has written anything on this board yet so I guess I should begin proceedings by saying - Sydney this year... premiership hangover in the first couple of rounds, maybe - possibly too early to say but it did feel good to knock 'em off the other day as a Port Adelaide fan.... :-) :-) :-)
I honestly don't rate Port's chances highly this year, but if we can win tricky ones like last weekend, we're in with a chance - I'm just going to enjoy following my team this year I think - if they win they win and if they don't I hope they grow from it - no expectations of finals, premierships, whatever.... but I still think there's some quality left in the side.

Port Crapalaide won't win. Just thought I'd break it to you now so you don't get your hopes all built up *still celebrating the Swannies win* It's funny though, the Melbourniteswere really desperate to claim a victory with the Sydney win.... notice how much they kept referring to the South Melbourne roots of the club... that cracked me up!!!I didn't like that, although we have to let them clain something considering the old Sth Melb fans are still staunch supporters. I have to respect people who'll barrack for you even if you've moved to a city thats superior to yours. In WA, there are still people who'll only root for the Melbourne teams they supported back in the day, and are loathe to barrack for either of their own. You're gonna miss going to the footy, Scottsy. Big time. It was one of the things I was most homesick for.

Yeah, I miss going to games and being there in the flesh and soaking up the atmosphere... it's one of the truly Australian cultural traditions that you just cannot find anywhere else...
But here's the rub...
We have spent just $60 on the AFL website and joined up as members so we can stream games anytime we like - so it makes up for missing the live game at least a bit! And being such a rabid power fan, how could i resist??!! :-) I might stream a quarter in a minute actually, while my daughter is being undemanding.... hehehehehe!

Five straight wins for the Power now. Looks like they are capable of getting their season back on track...and back into the eight now as well. Certainly after the good win over Premiership favourites West Coast the gained some credibility. Shame that the victory has come at the cost of Tredrea who was about to hit some good form after a poor start of the season. Saw quite a few matches of them on Saturday Afternoon Football and just like the Lions and the Blues they were belted pretty badly in the first half of the season. Good momentum shift now and with finally the scalp of a big name under the belt who knows?
Might actually go and see the Swans-Magpies match at Telstra next week!

Footie season is almost upon us! Looks like your mob's drawn first blood, Scottsy:
PORT ADELAIDE 89 ADELAIDE 86
Some Shaun Burgoyne magic helped propel Port Adelaide to a thrilling three-point triumph over arch-rivals Adelaide in their NAB Cup match last night.
Burgoyne was the key component of Port's 2.9.17 (89) to 2.10.8 (86) victory at AAMI Stadium. The smooth mover lodged an early goal-of-the-year contender and provided constant spark for the Power around the ground in a dominant performance before 16,355 spectators.
Burgoyne's incredible second-quarter 75-metre bomb on the run gave Port the impetus for victory.
Burgoyne swooped on a ball on his side's half-back flank, bounced along the wing and set sail with a hopeful roost which fortunately bounced through for an astonishing supergoal.
His heroics came after Port had slipped as much as 21-points adrift on an Adelaide side missing several stars, including midfielder Simon Goodwin.
Goodwin, who is under investigation by the AFL for betting on matches, was named captain for the match but was a late withdrawal with team officials citing a slight calf problem.
Port coach Mark Williams was satisfied with the narrow victory.
"Any time we play the Crows it's always a tight game and we are really pleased to get the result," Williams said. "Certainly the glass is half full for us. We did a lot of things right tonight and a lot of things we have worked on. We got a lot of great results and the players will get a lot of confidence out of."
Adelaide lost ruckman John Meesen with strained knee ligaments, an injury which could sideline the youngster for up to six weeks, but Crows coach Neil Craig was content with the first serious hit-out for his charges this year.
"It was a pretty competitive match," Craig said. "It gave us an opportunity to get some new players some significant ground time. It was tough conditions for both sides, so the ball movement in a lot of instances was pretty poor, particularly ours."

Maarts! Saw that game on bigpond internet TV! Fucking AWESOME! Always good to see those cocky Crow boys go DOWN! First game of the Season too - hopefully that will shut up some of the more rampant elements of the SA media! :-)
The game itself was good to watch, nice and close and tight, and it looks to me like Port's skill levels are up this year and there may be more promising things on the horizon for Season 2007! Some of the young blokes they played look to have some promise, and I am hoping young Ebert comes up to a new level and follows in his father's champion footsteps!
Now we have a wireless internet connection and we can plug our laptop into the Tv we've been watching alot of 2006 games too - my passion for AFL is reignited! Will be keeping up with Footy far better this year!
And hopefully my team will have the goods to make us wanna watch all the time too! GO PORT!

Did you also see that rainy match against Geelong in the quarters for the NAB-cup in Darwin? With Chaddie Kornes missing the goal right in front with only seconds on the clock? Jeez! :s
Hope that goalkicking's not becoming an issue again!
