Hurrah! The Timezone is back! I am very appreciative of this Kats! Having been a faqn and follower of the Timezone since the very early days of its inception...
A good day today, I'm not kidding, I got into the cushiest place to work at today... these kids were nothing but little sponges for everything I said, and there wasn't a single one of 'em who put a foot out line...
I tells ya, it was almost too perfect - it actually got a bit boring! You all know i need ferals to keep me entertained!
Listening back your compilation now Maarts, doing the good ol' quality control! Kat, I can do another copy of this for you if you like.... it's most definitely the Mellie / Scottsy album, and is based heavily on my thoughts RE: four weeks ago (wishes it was four weeks ago).... shout out if you want a copy and I'll burn one for ya!

"what?! the kid died? thats sad"
not really. of embarrassment. he died metaphorically. which is a lot better than dying similely, i guess.
that would be cool, scotts.

I'll pick up some more blank discs on Thursday and I'll sort out having one sent to you soon Kat! I hope it doesn't overkill too much on the sentiment for you, though... Hows things in the world of Kat today anyways?! I'm finally starting to get some strategies in my head for navigating these boards... involves keeping a few windows open at once for more convenient getting around, but hey, its working for me!

the biggest excitement in kat land is me changing my brand of cigarettes. you know what i'm like with routine though, so this was a big deal.
and that's it. trying to get this assignment done for thursday, and i don't think it's going to be done particularly well.
i'm just a boring, boring, person.

and i have a john irving book sitting on the bench which i am dying to read. but i don't have the time. whenever i read a john irving book, i look myself in my room for two days and read the book, only stopping to head outside for a smoke or go pee.
i emerge stinky, but enlightened.
strangest phrase of the day was me saying:
"yes, angela lansbury was the pinnacle of feminist theory. that bicycle was her standing on top of the glass ceiling screaming, no more, you arseholes!!'
was in context, however.
and that's about it. still president of the f@g union and spend the day dishing out love advice to friends. quite boring.
going to see tim rogers from you am i with movie boy from class. he owes me beer, so everything is good. i may be in with a chance yet.

Bizarre coincidence.
Woke up this morning and watched Murder She Wrote...Angela Lansbury not so much being the pinnacle of feminist theory but a lynchpin in a badly written mystery story...even I can guess who the murderer is!
played Swans all day, did laundry...have an unexpected guest as this stray cat has now taken to my place and sleeps his/her life away in my garden.
Had a surprise inspection of my unit. Had friggin porn lying everywhere. Sadly didn't turn very sexy real-estate girl on....
That last bit is a lie but then again I felt like saying it.
Which John Irving you're about to read? I only have Garp and Hotel New Hampshire and that's all I need off him....

you didn't like garp? ?? how can anyone not like garp? i'm about to read a son of the circus. i've read cider house, garp, fourth hand (which is WONDERFUL anyone who can write about an amputee faithfully gets my vote) oh, i just love irving and i hate popular new age fang dangled writers with their allusions to the internet and such.

reasons i love garp: -irving has the most fantastic narrative voice. his stories are so complex and engaging, quirky and spontaenous while being completely believable in their own weird little way. like roberta muldoon, she just speaks right off the page. -some of the best use of dialogue and character voice. each character has such distinct nuances and a voice...which many writers have problems mastering...all their characters end up sounding the same. ie- stephen king. -a male writer has recounted a rape experience with tact and talent. thats not often done. -funny, endearing and heartwarming. -a bluntness that is fantastic...but takes some getting used to. particularly in fourth hand and garp, not so much in cider house. -garp is everything. his character is just beautiful, so is jenny fields, and while it doesnt really attempt to make a social commentary, it serves beautifully alongside the political and social movements of the time it is set in.
just...ohhh. it's fucking wonderful.
and i never use the word wonderful.

just think of my poor english tutorial who, over the past few weeks has heard me talk about: -virginia woolf (amazing) -feminism (enough said) -frankenstein (which i have really set opinions on and can rant on forever...anyone who read weepings movie board back at rs can testify to that) -heart of darkness by joseph conrad -postmodernism -modern art
and in a few weeks, they're letting me present a seminar on samuel beckett who i get so excited by that i could wet myself. poor chillun.

Where did I say I didn't like Garp? Roberta is a classic!
Hotel New Hampshire is another great- from that moemnt on the surprises in characters and storytelling went a bit south and so I stepped over to science fiction.
Garps' bitten Bonkie!

oh, sorry. i thought you meant that by "Which John Irving you're about to read? I only have Garp and Hotel New Hampshire and that's all I need off him.... " as in, thats all i need, i couldn't bear anymore.
try and find fourth hand, maarts. i think youll dig it. kinda crazy. well, really crazy. its described as a sexual comedy and theres some freakish references to amputee sex...but apart from that...lol
im going to bed. see ya later!!

Catch ya later!

John Irving is absurdly 'readable' to me, in that he's so EASY to enjoy...pretty much like you'd said kat, very accessible, down-to-earth in his descriptions...yet does not talk down to his readers, not dumbing down ANYthing... Thank goodness that maarts cleared up this "all I need of J.I.'-question. I didn't wish to question his sanity, since up til then, he'd been one of my heroes here...

Well, the 'all I need'-domment wasn't supposed to be deragotory...I just believe that Irving was on his best with HNH and Garp. I read A Prayer For Owen Meanie and Rules Of The Cider House and even though they were enjoyable, they didn't have the same colourful characters as in those two books. That's just me. Oh, and Water Method Man. That one was pretty good and original too. Bit more Updike-ish!
And sanity is something that I don't have Doc but I ain't missing it either.
