I think he was sick. He kept sneezing or coughing. Making some weird noise. Then he shit all over the place. I wake up, he's dead. I put him in bed last night while I went to get something to drink, and I came back and couldn't find him. When I got in the bed to look for him I think I may have put my knee on him as he was under a robe. But he seemed okay. I think he was just sick. Really sucks though 'cause he was so cute and playful. And he really liked listening to the Boss. Sounds like distemper. Did he have his shots?

Our babysitter's cat had kittens, and she gave one to me. She called that night and asked if I wanted a replacement kitty. Just going to wait a few weeks to make sure it'll be okay. I think this one was only 5 weeks when I got it; it hadn't had any shots or anything. They said 7-8 weeks should be okay to be without the mom. So I go from adorable black with white paws to white with gray spots. And I can't name it Wilco again. I miss the little thing though. I keep hearing his little half purr in squeaky chairs, doors closing and everything. Only had him for a week but we bonded big time

That's great, Frag! Don't be in a hurry to pick it up - they learn everything from their mommas, though as a veteran cat owner, you probably know that. They learn to bathe themselves, proper toiletry, claw grooming, hunting, and many other things from momma.

Not only do they learn all those survival things, but I'm a firm believer that having enough time with mama calms them too. I don't know if it's a chemical thing with the mother's milk, or a mental thing or what. But the most violent and mean cats I've ever known have been cats who were separated from their mothers too soon.

yeah, puppies removed from their mothers too soon are usually demented.
I called the BBC today & demanded to speak with their top reporter, and I asked him if Rocky was cool. The top reporter checked all the latest figures & said "Rocky is just about the coolest guy around!"
You can't question the Beeb. They know everything. Even their entertainment news is great.

Better watch those steps ...

I just got my new kitty today! It's from the same litter. A few weeks made all the difference, I think. This one is definitely a lot calmer. I think it's a girl. And I think I'm naming her Tupelo. Looks a lot like Wilco but white with patches of gray. I can't believe I used to hate cats. Now I love 'em. Weird how that works. Also weird how I reacted to its death, I think. I was frigging crying. I've been through so many family deaths and even witnessed two die, never shedding a single tear. My kitten dies and I'm a wreck. Makes no sense.
Still not too sure about the name for this one, though. I like Tupelo. But I don't know...it's missing something. Any suggestions? I want it to be a musical reference. Preferably something I like, heh.

Congrats on your new kitty, frag! I like the name Tupelo, myself ... though I tend to like one syllable names for cats, makes it easier to yell at them when they decide to miss behave, while looking right at you. My current cat is named Bob ... though it's usually more like BOB!
I get much more emotional about the death of animals that are close to me than I do with people. Don't know why, either.

Tupelo...bit of a mouthful. Why not call it Nick after Nick Cave, who sang Tupelo? It's it needs to be in the Wilco-atmosphere....Tweedy doesn't sound bad.

Tupelo is from Tupelo Honey, my favorite song and album by Van Morrison. Or to keep the Tweedy reference, though unintended, it could refer to Uncle Tupelo as well, I suppose. I would've named her Tweedy. But everyone would think it was Tweety. Just can't have that. Maybe Johnny 99. That'd be a cool name for a kitty. Or Vinegar Jones. on a side note, I'm about to delve into that Arctic Monkeys album. It better not piss me off or Holzman's getting it.
