Wow Chrisfan, that is very cool! You're gonna love U2, simply one of the best live bands in the history of rock and roll (IMHO their biggest competition for this crown would come from Springsteen and the E Street Band). So are ya gonna take the guy down the street that you used to date? It'll make his wife really wonder what you're up to!

Chrisfan, is that show sold out? If so, sell the tickets on Ebay. I'm pretty sure you could get top dollar for them. Well, that's what I would do. Even though I love U2, I'd rather take a few hundred bucks to not attend one of their shows.

He he he! As I remember, he at least used to LOVE U2. Even included a song or two of theirs on mix tapes for me.
I've been trying to complie a list of concerts I've gotten to go to for free. Here's what I've come up with so far:
U2 Neil Diamond Prince Simon and Garfunkel The Clarks (twice) Barry Manilow Tina Turner Cher NSync
A couple of crappy ones in there (although they were fun shows nonetheless - and I did get to go TECHNICALLY backstage at NSync, which is cool regardless of the performer) Not too shabby.

Chrisfan -- just think of Kool as the devil on your shoulder and me as your guiding angel: GO SEE U2!
Seriously, this is one of those bands that you'll tell your kids about seeing twenty years from now. See 'em now instead of when they are on the Geritol tour like the Stones. And to see 'em for free ... you can always make more money via some other mechanism, when are you going to get the chance to see Bono and Edge, Adam, and Larry FOR FREE?!
This is a no-brainer ... go see U2.

Nope. Take the money! Then buy the live DVD from their previous tour at just a fraction of the cost.

Ken, I agree completely. Seeing Tina Turner was the most amazing experience of my life, not just because I LOVE her, but because she's such an amazing performer. There are just some acts that are SO good live that you need the experience whether you like them or not.

Tina Turner has rarely made studio albums that adequately display her talent. (Private Dancer is the notable exception). Similarly, as much as I love U2's albums, they are at their best on stage. And a DVD doesn't begin to capture the atmosphere at an actual show.
BTW, I've never seen Tina Turner live, but everyone I've ever talked to who has was absolutely floored by her performance. I have, however, seen U2 live twice, and would happily pay full ticket price to do it a third time.
And Kool's last post just proves that he is the devil in this conversation!

Yes, but you're familiar with Tina's work, going back to the old stuff. When was the last time you bought a U2 disc? Was it 'The Joshua Tree'? If so, take the money. It's just not worth to only hear a handful of songs you're familiar with. ... Rent the live DVD from your local video store and burn yourself a copy. It'll only cost you a few bucks. Think of what you can do with all that $$$ left over. A downpayment on a new Civic. A lawn mower. A maid for a few weeks. Hire a detective to spy on your ex down the street. The choices are endless....

The only person on your list I would go see is Prince. And then only if I had really good seats, went witha bunch of friends and we got a stocked limo and spent then night at a hotel nearby the venue. I used to go to concerts just to go but now I am like super duper picky poo. I can have more fun at home than at a concert if I don't care about the performer. And needless to say I do not care for U2 anymore.

For free, I'd see all of those acts, apart from NSync and Barry Manilow.
I'd actually pay for U2, Tina and Prince.
The only tickets I wouldn't sell on Ebay are Prince's. Unless it's for thousands, no artist is worth that much just to see them live, unless they're giving a private performance for you and yours in your backyard.

I just enjoy the environment of a concert. I've been to several where I was sitting so far from the stage that it was more like hanging out and listening to music, but I just like the experience ... ear ringing after the show and all. Okay, so I have the poor hearing now to show for it, but sometimes you've just gotta pay the price.
And I'll re-iterate again ... Tina, hands down, is the best live performer of all time. No one can hold a candle to her. Her vocals are outstanding, her energy is second to none, but the very best part of all is that she SINCERELY cares about putting the spotlight on her band and back-up singers. She works things into the show where various individuals talents are showcased ... most of those are opportunities for wardrobe changes for her ... but she actually celebrates the talent of the people on stage with her instead of being intimidated by the idea of being outdone. The woman is a class act all the way.

This makes the news? ? LOS ANGELES - Barbra Streisand has canceled her subscription to the Los Angeles Times over the firing of the paper's liberal columnist. The newspaper dropped Robert Scheer and several other columnists last month; Scheer speculated he was let go because the Times had tired of his politics. Perhaps the most liberal voice on the paper's opinion pages, Scheer had been a Times columnist for 12 years. He was a reporter for the newspaper for 17 years before that. "Robert Scheer's column, with its often singular voice of dissent and groundbreaking expositional content, has been among the most notable features that have sustained my interest in subscribing to the LA Times for many years now," Streisand wrote in a letter she sent to the newspaper and posted on her Web site. Streisand, a well-known supporter of Democratic candidates and liberal causes, wrote that by firing Scheer the Times had reduced the diversity of voices on its opinion pages. A shortened version of her letter was printed in the Times Nov. 23. The full letter is posted on her Web site. In a note to its readers, the Times reported Nov. 15 that hundreds of readers had written or called to complain about Scheer's departure. David Garcia, a Times spokesman, had no comment Thursday on Streisand's letter.

Babs scares me. The fact that she really thinks she can manipulate her life to live in a wold where the flowers outside ALWAYS match the color of the room you're in, and where everyone around her is a liberal who thinks like her is just pathetic. She's such an idiot that it even starts to make her pitch perfect voice sound off in my ear.

Is it just me, or is The Edge, like, the single most underrated guitarist in the history of rock and roll? That may be a bit of an overstatement, but for being the only guitar up on stage for most of a show, the guy just does not get his due.
