By the way, Strat-0: Those are most excellent pics of our Universe, mate!! Bravo.
I just finished reading Sagan's CONTACT yesterday, and I was moved beyond words.

your kids should be in movies, phil, what cuties!
and thanks for the stargazing pics, strat.
I have friends who swear by ofoto, but I don't know if it works for linking. however, I've used snapfish to link to RS and it's a great little site...
I don't think I have any recent photos that I would consider post-worthy...I want a digital camera!

I was going to post some pics of my dumbass, and my family, and since Phil seemed to be having good luck with imagetown, I went with that. But when I clicked on Thorny's link, the page came up with the formatting all fucked up. I tried several times...anyone else tried imagetown? had any probs? I'm just trying to figure out if the prob is with the site, or my computer.

Yeah, stratman, they've got some really annoying thing going with the graphics. I must have got what you did, which was a very confused webpage. So much so that I didn't even see the "browse" button there. It's there, though. Works great!

Thanks, Thorn. Sagan was brilliant. His non-fiction is also very engaging. Cosmos is an excellent read, but you prolly knew that.

Man, can you believe that -? Amazing. Sweet pics, stratman. I guess the lower one is an actual pic - - and the upper one, an artist's rendering.
Did you ever wonder, what if - - they find out the asteroid was a spaceship -? And they majorly f'd it up, haha. Boy that would . . . suck. I'm real interested to see what sort of scientific light this will shed on the origin of our solar system, and shit. Freakin fascinatin'.

The moon looked cool this evening, so I just went out and took some pictures. First time I've used this camera for any astrophotos - not bad at all. This was with it set at the highest resolution setting (5Mb), but on "normal," not "fine." You can also use the CCD-raw mode, which uses 16Mb per picure. I also could have reduced the sensitivity (currently at "ISO 1600"), since zoomed in this much there is plenty of light. Sure are a lot of settings to try to keep up with. I would have changed the settings and taken some more, but the moon went behind some trees. It would have made a lot of difference. I've only just scratched the surface of this camera's capabilities. This is at 10X optical zoom and 5.7X digital zoom, for a total of 57X. Obviously, I've reduced the file size to post it here.

Here is a horribly over exposed image. What's noteworthy is that you can actually see some detail on the rest of the unlit moon, due to earthshine.
