I'm 19 and something of a spinster. That's right, I've never had a "real" boyfriend. Most girls my age would be like "OMG I DON'T HAVE A BOYFRIEND, MY LIFE IS OVER!", but it doesn't bother me that much. Maybe it's because most of the guys at my college are Abercrombie-wearing jocks/preps/frat boy types. Maybe it's because the vast majority of guys my age are extremely immature. Maybe it's because the only guys who want to go out with me are incredibly strange, socially inept metalheads. I like being single, but I really hope I'm still not a dateless wonder by the time I'm 30.

OMG: encounters like yours, dwazee, and especially that one about the dildo, Mary, make me really feel like I don't have a lot to bitch about...I can't think of a single random encoun ter with a strange man that measures up, but I'm sure there have been a few that I can't think of that are prety appalling...
I know everyone just said goodnight, but I can't sleep. So, to cop Maarts's idea...
Top 10 Things Going On in My Life Currently:
1. Did I ever mention that I got a new car months ago? My first car that I am solely responsible for paying for (parent's bought the last one) Well I did.
2. Did I ever mention I am working a 2nd job at a bookstore to help pay for said car? well, I am.
3. I am still doing the admin. asst./dancer/choreographer/referee (!) thing for the one dance company and...
4. Next week I will audition to be a full timer with the other company...
5. Been having one of those "Jesus! Achtung, Baby is so good!" kind of weeks. It hasn't left my cd player since Sunday and I keep starting it over and just marvellilng at it...
6. It's official: I'm coming down with something, hopefully not strep, which is going around the dancers I was with the other night.
7. I have decided I want to go back to school. Nobody ask me when or where...And I'm just so flighty I could change my mind at any given second. But I want to finish my theatre/dance B.A. and maybe get some kind of business degree (perhaps marketing)...so that I'm not one of those idiotic people trying to run an arts institution but knows nothing about business (you guessed it, that's a direct dig at the people I work for.)
8. I've been feeling very stable and content for the last few months, so it's a sure sign of the apocalypse.
9. My good friend is visiting from Portland, so I'm really happy at the moment. 10. Currently having fun planning my sister's fiesta-themed wedding. It's more fun to help plan when you actually get to make suggestions (meaning that I like getting to stear the bride away from heinous bad taste...)
I suppose that's enough of an update. I still want to see dwazee's hair...hmpf.

PC:
IMHO, you're gorgeous and really freakin' cool. I wouldn't worry in the least about guys. I always say it's better not to date than to date the wrong people just to be dating, so you're soooooo ahead of the game.
So many girls would rather be miserable with a dick than happy alone, with the thought of maybe waiting for someone wonderful.

What happened to me is I just got so sick of putting up with crap...I started to realized I actually wasn't lying, I really did like it being alone...I'm very reluctant to go out with anyone these days, well, for the last year. Unless there's just really a strong connection. I don't care how nice they seem or how they MIGHT GROW ON ME...I'd rather be left to my own routines and norms unless it's someone who's gonna be great...
'cos what's the point of putting up with bullshit?
What I mean is: independence is golden. savor it! never relenquish it unless it's for a total prince. that's what I think.
even if it sounds maniacal!

and now, I must go to bed because I don't have the luxury of dozing off during the morning drive anymore...
thanks to all for putting up with my crazed rants.

Bands I owe to RSer's recommendations:-
Sigur Ros (JACkory) Red House Painters (JACkory) Nick Cave (Mary) Black Heart Procession (Mary) Razorlight (Res) Libertines (Res) The Killers (Luke) Tragically Hip (Riley I think) Hot Hot Heat (Riley I think) Interpol (Dwazee - by accident when she slagged off their lyrics) Ours (samples) Idlewild (Dolly) GY!BE (can't remember)
Some recommendations that didn't work out for me:-
Modest Mouse (samples) Wilco (Rocky and Ken) X (Mary) Fear Factory (dobs) Jeff Buckley (shane)

I read y'all's posts on boys. I have to go to the funeral in like 2 hours, but later on I'm gonna post y'all a little something on how I stay sane.

I heard Razorlight and it was quite good. Say Jesus, have you heard of a band called The Open?
Just to follow up on the last men-convo here; I just hope that the general consensus might be that you ladies haven't found the right man yet... I'm searching for a ladyfriend myself and I haven't been succesful so far either. Some of the girls I liked at first instance turned out to be either self-obsessed (yes, those 27-year old mobile-addicts, ueb!) or had such low self-esteem that I felt like Dr. Phil sometimes in an effort to cheer them up and give advice. I don't know. The trick is not to blame yourself constantly for something not working out, but also not blaming the other. I still am learning, even though I'm fairly old now.
Lumen- please stay happy. I can take any apocalypse coming my way!

but my biggest peeve are people that smoke pot RIGHT NEXT TO ME. why, you might ask? i dont care bout drug use generally, but for some strange reason, pot smoke makes me violently angry. i dont know why--but it always has. and everytime someone smoeks it at a concert, it takes every last part of me not to rip the joint out of their mouths and stab them in the eyes with it. boo.
NAZI!

"I'm 19 and something of a spinster. That's right, I've never had a "real" boyfriend. Most girls my age would be like "OMG I DON'T HAVE A BOYFRIEND, MY LIFE IS OVER!", but it doesn't bother me that much."
same thing here... obviously, replace "boyfriend" with "girlfriend" and "girls" with "boys". personally, there are times when i feel lonely and wish i had someone my age who cared about me, but yeah, it doesn't bother me THAT much...
"Maybe it's because most of the guys at my college are Abercrombie-wearing jocks/preps/frat boy types."
at most colleges they're like that. same with the girls around here. i've always worn sweatpants and plain t-shirts out of comfort reasons, and they've always been like OMG WHY DONT U WEAR TEH TOMMY HILFIGER!?, WHY DONT U BUY SUM CLOTHEZ!?. i wear fancier clothes when i should though.
"Maybe it's because the vast majority of guys my age are extremely immature."
i dunno, sometimes it seems that way, but trust me, a lot of them aren't.
"I like being single, but I really hope I'm still not a dateless wonder by the time I'm 30."
don't take this in a bad way because i know some girls get somehow offended when they're told this, but you're fun, friendly, good looking (pretty, in my humble opinion), and seem to have a bright academic future ahead of you. you'll have someone by then, trust me.
and now, my top 10 favorite foods:
1) pizza 2) pizza 3) pizza 4) pizza 5) pizza 6) pizza 7) pizza 8) pizza 9) pizza 10) various italian stuff
cowabunga, dudes!

JLLM, I downloaded a Razorlight song - something with "Rock n' Roll" in the title. Didn't send me right out the door after the after the record or anything but I liked it well enough.

"Rock n' Roll Lies"? That's the weakest song on the album, except maybe for "Leave Me Alone". The other 11 are classics.
Start off with the title track or "Dalston" for the album track feel, and also one of the singles - "Golden Touch", "Stumble & Fall", "Rip It Up", or "Vice".
