It's a good year for UK indie bands.

Oh, but Pete Doherty is an undeniable arseholed smackheaded thieving wanker.
Thinking about it some more Dwazee, if you want to know what the Libs are about, download "Last Post on the Bugle", "The Man Who Would Be King", or "Can't Stand Me Now".

It's a good year for UK indie bands. Yeah, and the funny thing about The Killers is they'd so obviously love to be British. ;D

I recently bought Q magazine's "150 greatest rock lists ever" edition. Great nerd material. I'll just lift one that I particularly agreed with for this board as a taster, and include a few of the comments.
The 10 most critically revered, oddly underplayed albums you're meant to like more than you do
1. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde Lop the second halves off all the tracks, ditch that 12-bar sneering and you'd have a decent 20 minutes of music. Even then it helps if you're a beardy English teacher.
2. Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On ...like having a cokehead waving his erection in your face for half an hour.
3. Patti Smith - Horses What no-one ever seems to notice about this feted New York punk milestone is how much of it resembles straight 70's AOR. Even the freaky garage freakouts are hardly freaky. Maybe you had to be there.
4. Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
5. Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold US Back
6. Massive Attack - Blue Lines
7. Beck - Odelay
8. Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of...
9. Radiohead - Kid A ... the most trying aspect is paying attention as the songs get progressively more mediocre. Before going to see Radiohead live does anyone ever hope they'll play Treefingers? Not really.
10. Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Now that's weird. I listened to both Odelay and Kid A yesterday. And Frizzle Fry, by far my favourite listen of the day. I was having this really shitty day and then i went on lunch break and ended up sitting in my car the whole time, jamming out to Primus. Suddenly made life more bearable.

I'm VERY excited about that new Libertines album. Love the first, think it rivals anything and everything The Strokes ever did.
Is that Razorlight album out in the US yet?
Very much looking forward to the new Bjork, too. Was skeptical, but then I read that magic word that I think is pronounced something like "Mike Patton," and I figured, hey, it can't completely suck.
Both the Bjork and Libertines are hitting shelves this coming Tuesday, I believe.
By the time this year ends, I will have seen The Killers three times and Franz Ferdinand once. Can't say I'm not excited. I'll also have seen Velvet Revolver, making this the first time ever I've seen the bands who had the top three albums of the year.
The Killers weren't all that when I saw them live in Houston. They weren't sloppy, but there were these two shitty opening bands that totally killed the crowd, and then the Killers set wasn't as long as it could have been. You also can't hear much of the electronic stuff except when the singer whips out the keyboard. It's mainly just vocals, weak guitars, and a hint of the electronic bits that make the album so great. Good show, just not great.
I'll see them two more times this year, but both times'll be outdoors. So...I dunno. We'll see.

BTW, unlike Dwazee, I enjoyed Interpol at Curiousa. But then, I was all stoned and shit, so maybe that slow but trippy pace worked a bit better for me...

God, Dummy is boring, no matter how sexy the singer is. Zzzzzzz. I'm falling asleep here.
luke - amg has Razorlight's album down as Aug 17th release date. Dunno whether that's still accurate though.

Well, Jesus, I'm heading out that way, anyway, so maybe I'll stop by Best Buy before class and see if they've got it.
Man, I love Best Buy. Humongous selection, all sorts of bands you'd NEVER expect to see at some big corporate chain, and they're all CHEAP. Put most the indie stores out of business, but fuck them, those indie stores all sold out and had shit for selection.
Anyway, though, Jesus, still plan on sending that Muse mix? Because after they no-showed Curiousa, I went ahead and picked up Absolution, and I must say, for the first time, I really and truly understand everyone who wants to love the Pumpkins but can't get past Corgan's voice. Bellamy sounds WRETCHED, everything I hate about Thom Yorke all rolled up into this one big monstrosity that will NEVER SHUT UP. Unlike Yorke, I can't just wish the guy away and think of how much better the band would be without him, because he's all tearing shit up on guitar. Just like Corgan. I just wish I had some feature on my CD player that would completely drown out those horrid vocals.
So yeah, sort of a love/hate thing going on here right now. Send that mix, though, please. Even if I can't ever fully get into it, I live with a girl who seems to love the stuff.

I just can't get excited about The Killers. I bought the album, I loved it on the first day, and on each subsequent day I loved it less and less until now it just sounds like high-class mainstream blah going with the current flow of What's Hip. I can't believe you all still love them this much. What's wrong with you me?

Okay mate, I'll send you the highlights of the first two albums as you've already got the third.
The vocals... yeah, there's a problem for some there. Just like Corgan I guess. Same irresistably manic guitar shit going on as well, especially on Origin of Symmetry, which is their tear it up album.

samps, I just played The Killers today, and it sounded fresh as ever. It's a bit like the FF album - Just got to give it a few days to breathe between listens, then play it loud when you want to sing along.

As for "high class mainstream", well that's exactly what it is. They didn't get those Duran comparisons for nothing

Well I guess I am immune to the Franz Ferdinand/Killers bug. It bit me once and I'll never be susceptible again. My loss, I suppose, though it doesn't feel like it.

beh, you're not alone. i don't HATE franz ferdinand, but i find their album pretty boring. the single's decent anyway. plus "this fire"'s okay, and "auf asche" is respectable. actually, most of its respectable. i just don't care for it.
as far as the killers go, that boyfriend who looks like a girlfriend line or whatever it is made me think they were another pop gimmick band (note: puddle of mudd), but seeing how i haven't listened to any of their other songs, i can't bash them too much.
