I'm now all of a sudden afraid to send you the CDs I made for you, Ryo.... I prefer thousandfold to hear The Next Big Thing From The UK than The Next Big R&B-Thing From The USA, The Next Big Dumbass Rapper With Too Much Jewellery, The Next Ex-Idol-Artist Making A Solo Album, The Next Big Boi-Band...in short all those manufactured popartists overflooding the teenyboppermarket, no matter where they are from.

Songs I Like By Bands I Like That People Apparently Think Are Crap, But I Don't: Linkin Park - Breaking The Habit Good Charlotte - Girls & Boys Hoobastank - The Reason Evanescence - My Immortal STP - Sex Type Thing
What can I say, I'm a douchebag.
Anyway, yeah, my new favorite song is "American Idiot" by Green Day. I think I've listened to the song about 50 times in the past week or so. It's like a breath of fresh air.
Don't wanna be an American idiot. Don't want a nation under the new media. And can you hear the sound of hysteria? The subliminal mindfuck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Convincing them to walk you.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America. I'm not a part of a redneck agenda. Now everybody do the propaganda. And sing along in the age of paranoia.

i'm with you on "american idiot" (omg! teh mallpunk!!) and "sex type thing" (omg! teh... mallgrunge!?!). good tunes. "american idiot" is the first single i've heard on the radio this year that i thought has any sort of spark ("float on", "take me on", and others are good, but i don't exactly think of them as energetic or blood rushing or anything like that).
as for "breaking the habit", i'll admit its a step above linkin park's usual singles, but i still... uh... well, it's not for me, i'll say that. as previously stated hoobastank's first album is tolerable. i won't bother commenting on good charlotte or evanescence... i'll just pull the "we have different tastes" card.
but no matter what, don't feel bad about your tastes. i like (some) sponge, i shouldn't talk.

I don't feel bad about it at all. When I first started frequenting RS.com about 5 years ago, I wasn't known for having very good music taste. Not that I do now. I took the time out to take a listen to some of what people were talking about (Radiohead, The Clash, Fugazi, etc.) and I expanded my horizons (or whatever). But during that time, I sort of rejected a lot of what I liked before that period. I've always liked different stuff, and I think I always will.
It's all subjective, and music taste depends on the person. I'm glad I found this place and had a chance to be exposed to some of the music I'm now in love with, and I'm glad I'm able to do that and still like the music I've been known to like for years.

It's just that jllm was going on his usual "British music is the best" nonsense, which we all know is bullshit Yeah, yeah. British music is shit, you're right. No good bands ever came out of Britain except for, ahem, the Delgados. Razorlight are "shit" because the NME happens to love 'em? Well, there's independent thinking for you.

england has some great bands, but i've seen plenty of british charts, and their pop music world sucks relatively as badly as this one. but hey, it's cool to bash american music, so england4ever!

i love that attitude... rock on. i don't care what bands you listen to as long as you stand by your preferences and don't compromise. *thumbs up*

Yeah, all chart music "sucks". Your point is?
Bah - just because the NME is an annoying rag that thinks it has the power to make or break a band just on a whim, doenn't mean that it doesn't get it right once in a while. I have no problem with people who have taken the time to listen to the bands in question - NOT just a few singles (which can be the only way someone would compare FF with the Strokes) and then decide they're shit, but just to bash them because they are part of a scene that one doesn't approve of - well that's just lazy.
