You know Ryo, I'd love to hear you swear/scream in Japanese! Does it sound really high-pitched?
It's been a while but yes, I have borrowed it from the library some years ago. At the time I thought it was a bit rambling- moving from jazzy noodlings to Eno's tape-stry and weird-ass songs (took me a while to like them, I always preferred his ambient stuff and the first two Roxy Music-albums) but it sounded like fun anyway. I never felt the need to get myself a copy, even though I was quite interested to collect everything Eno-related at the time. It probably is one of the few albums of Eno live in the seventies that sort of gives an idea how he woul dhave sounded live- not to disrespect Manzanera, but Eno did provide a large part of the entertainment on 801.
Slipped in 6PM in the player one more time today and, again, it sounded nice but didn't move any mountains for me...
I tell you what did- and Scottsy, you better perk up your ears for another great Aussie release has hit the street- the new Art Of Fighting-album! As melancholic as Mojave 3, heartbreakingly low-key and beautiful- this is what I want to hear with the cold rain pelting down on my tin roof! Album It's called Second Storey and I recommend it to you wholeheartedly- imagine the softer bits of the latest Epicure album with a bit of a country twang?

Great stuff *feeling slightly superior to Scottsy for buying and enjoying an Australian album before him* YOU LOST TO A JAPANESE GUY!!!! HOW SAD IS THAT???!!!

Wow! That's amazing, Ryosuke. That album only was released about ten days ago in Australia. Funny how I was earlier complaining that quality Japanese music hardly hit our shores, whereas the opposite seems possible! Good to see you like it too! Are there any other bands from Oz you have been able to pick up? If you liked Art Of Fighting I could recommend Architecture In Helsinki to you! As for feeling superior to Scottsy....

It was a Japanese release too, not an import. I dunno, we have a lot of crackhead labels here who think they can actually turn up a profit by signing unknown (in Japan) bands from overseas. You gotta love them though, even if they may not have the best business sense. But year Art Of Fighting...that stuff is right up my alley. As for other Aussie bands, I'm hoping you can enlighten me with them with the fabulous stuff you'll be burning for me (did you get my email btw?)

Yes I did! Thanks for that- it gave me some ideas about what I could send you! I'll get to that as soon as I can (need to get some CD-Rs tomorrow first!)

Just bought "If You're Feeling Sinister" by Belle and Sebastian and I must say I was surprisingly not as impressed as I expected. I would give it 3 stars, no more, no less. If I'm not mistaken, Rolling Stone gave it the same thing, but we all know that they don't know what the hell they're doing/talking about half of the time. Just look what they said about Blind Melon and how they rated Ritual de lo Habitual.

hey straw..glad to 'see' ya!.....I"m still listening a bit to the NO thanks, punk 4-cd set, and this morning totally captivated with the insanely melodic song about teenagers by the Undertones....many of those old punk (or new wave/punk) bands definitely had a knack for killer hooks......
....getting very excited in anticipation of seeing X this Saturday.....
Riley, though I've tried in somewhat-earnest since the 80s, the Beastie Boys are one band that I immediately switch off when they come on the radio...I know they are hugely popular and the critics love them, but the vocals drive me cuckoo.....

I flip and flop a bit on the B-Boys. Their flow is signature and their loops are second to none, but sometimes I can't decide whether I like when their a bit more silly and playful or if I would just prefer for them to completely embrace their arty side, where to now they seem only willing to touch on.
The new disc is 100% honest and genuine, much more in the vein of say Paul's Boutique, but my preference has always been when they're mixing 70's funk/porn grooves with straight on punk tracks and solid hip hop stuff. Basically I like them best when their least consistent. Check Your Head, to me is the best example of this approach, and is my personal fave.

Sad, but if he continues on releasing similar music as a solo artist, isn't it still really The White Stripes, but without a the cute mediocre drummer?

Bow, the Undertones song is called "Teenage Kicks." I just bought their debut album yesterday, it's great. Lots of killer pop-punk (in a good way!) songs on there. You should really check it out.
