Allmans rule. Listening to Dreams loud can still be a moving spiritual experience for me. There's so much in there. And it's in 3/4!

One semester, my tuba/euphonium instructor had me play nothing but pieces in 3, 6, or 9 time. Nothing but triplets for four months. By the end of it, I could play the stuff in my sleep, though, so I guess it worked. I went from hating 6/8 signatures to actively seeking them out.

Ryo--is he the Asian equivelent of John Denver? Old man rock is awesome. Some call it Buttrock too. Its a very broad category.

I guess you could look at Dreams as being in 6/8 time. Interesting that when Molly Hatchet covered it, they changed it to 4/4 and surprisingly, it works. Whippin Post is unique: it starts in 11/4 (and reverts to this between verses), and the verses are in 3/4.

I love Thin Lizzy. I'm not even totally convinced they're old man music, not that I have any problem with loving old man music. Phil Lynott really just seems too cool to be classified so narrowly. Deserves to be in a class by himself.
But I also have albums by Cream, Byrds, CCR, Yardbirds, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath (does that count? not sure), Nazareth, and Grand Funk Railroad.
Somewhere inside of me, there is an old man.
Errrrr. Let me rephrase that...
Cheers, M

I love Thin Lizzy. I consider them Old Man Music. But for sexy older men, the ones that insist on hanging out in skeezy rock bars & chatting up 25 year olds well into their 50s. Like if George Clooney had street cred.
Not sure on Sabbath, though. They get a new batch of 14 year old guitar lesson kids every few years & this negates most Old Man qualities.
Somewhere inside of me, there is an old man
Considering you listen to Deep Purple, theres probably more than one, and your insides would be so hazy & tripped out.

But how does it work in metric measures ?? Let's see... I guess a measure would have 11 beats and a .25 note would get one beat.

Mary has a Grand Funk album? Which one? And an old man inside her? wholy sheeet!
There oughta be a rule--for every Grand Funk, Journey, Accept, etc. record you own you get a mullet icon (that I have not developed yet)
The Grammys make my left eye twitch. Man I have been such a fool to miss out on the Black Eyed Peas blend of humor and pop!

With the sudden departure of our friend & noted Old Man Music connoisseur, Phil, I am sad to say the amount of OMM consumption on this board has plummeted dramatically.
We can, however, deal with this unexpected crisis. I, for one, am listening to nothing but the Jeff Beck Group for at least 2 hours.

Ryo--is he the Asian equivelent of John Denver? Ha! I missed this. I don't know what John Denver sounds like actually, but I'm pretty sure that Yoshio Hayakwa sounds nothing like him. I'm curious to know when bands like the Clash and the Jam will start being considered Old Man's Music. Actually, it probably is already.

Damn L to the Izzay--those better be the first 3 Jeff Beck albums for your sake! :>
Does Dinosaur Jr constitute Old Man Music now? Rory Gallagher? That music keeps you young! How about the Sex Pistols...Punkers gotta age too....Let me read the rules again....
Like that Camper Van Beethoven song--"Where the Hell Is Bill" (if you havent heard it please hear it now!) i submit "WHERE THE HELL IS PHIL"
Maybe he went to get a new dog Maybe he went to a kick ass thrash show maybe he went to Zappas grave maybe he hit delete instead of save...
That last line was no good.
