My fifty year old brother was a huge BTO fan ... in 1973! Sure sounds like Old Man Rock to me. ;D

Honestly if Dolly's truly doctrinaire on the goofy Holzman's 'Law', then nothing is going to get her into the Allmans....but, I wonder if she's heard Natsumen? I've been listening to omeone Allmans today actually, and I'm loving it. I randomly downloaded Brothers and Sisters, not sure if it's a good one, according to the all knowing old man gospel, but I love it. Also seen the Fillmore discs for a reasonably squiddage in the 'ol HMV, so when the weekend comes.... Your advice has been duly noted, DED, Strat and co.

All cool people listen to Natsumen, and dolly is cool, so I'm sure she does. I'd be shocked otherwise. Oh no! I know not Natsumen. I've seen you discussing them - I assumed they were Japanese ?

CREAM-Wheels of Fire (especially the studio album which contained Pressed Rat and Warthog)
The live disc is that set's highlight for me. PR&WH? NononoNO.
SAVOY BROWN--if you can name at least three members of this band you get the tennis visor that says OLD MAN ROCK on it.
Kim Simmonds is the only one I know there...but I can name all of Foghat's people.
If you know what the cover to WHO DO YOU THINK WE ARE by Deep Purple looks like, you get the gold medal for being into Old Man Rock.
Nope, couldn't remember that one. Looked it up. Rat Bat Blue was pretty good there..
If you know who Roy Buchanan is......
DC slinger. Of 'RB and The Snakestretchers'-fame. Played a meaner-than-mean Tele....that insane version of Hey Joe.
Peter Frampton did not always suck. What band(s) was he in before he struck out on his own?
Yes, the great Humble Pie with Steve Marriott which he followed with his own 'Frampton's Camel' which did some very good discs (a totally unique Jumpin Jack Flash was a highlight); I once saw BOTH bands co-billed at the Chicago International Amphitheater musta been late 80's...
If you have a Supertramp CD or record, yeah. All over. Grow whiskers and eat cheese.
I positively HATED Supertramp back in the day, but just recently got a retrospective of theirs. Excellent shit. I was stupid and close-minded.
Years back a friend of mine wanted me to watch his house for him feed his cats and walk his dog while he was gone etc--make sure nothing got messed up. Im not talking shit about him here...he was cool...but dude had every SAGA CD known to MAN! Every SUPERTRAMP CD--imports, live you name it! Roger Hodgeson solo CDs. Im kicking myself in the ass for not taping that shit
Did he also like the 'new' Genesis and then even Phil Collins when HE went solo? McCartney too?
Shit, I know the guy!
;D

If the Beatles aren't old guys rock, what about Wings?

If the Beatles aren't old guys rock, what about Wings? Wings are old man rock. For that matter, almost all of the ex-Beatles solo LPs qualify as old man rock (the exceptions being John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, All Things Must Pass, and --maybe -- Band on the Run ... or Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're the most popular Japanese band on this board. A whole bunch of people (RocDoc, Fuzz, Rocky, Mary, luke, Thorn, ded, kenny, wayved, Drum) have taken to them, which is pretty neat. Though Holzman's name is conspicuously missing from that list! But to be honest, I can't see you getting into them...

Hey Ryo, So they ARE Japanese! Now I don't feel as bad about never having heard of them. So... why can't you see me getting into them? Judging from the Holzman ommission of the Natsumen appreciation society, am I to assume they're some kind of long-winded prog outfit?

I should add that some of my favourite tracks of all time are over the 7 minute mark:
Neil Young's Ambulance Blues, Sisters of Mercy 'Some Kind of Stranger' (both will be on my album closer list), Kinks Shangri-La. To name..... three (There are more, I just can't think of 'em right now:P)

Well they do bill themselves as a "Japanese Progressive HardCore JAZZ Aggressive Improvisation ROCK band"...

I could sendspace you the album if you're interested (or maybe just physically send you the burned CD if that's what you prefer).

Oh yeah, and don't worry about how not listening to Natsumen precludes you from being cool. I've never heard a single Guided By Voices song, so my hopes of being cool were kind of dashed too.
