Definitely Maybe owns Morning Glory.

I'm in agreement with Riley here. Ionce owned both albums... and got rid of them both when I decided it was time for an Oasis purging from my collection...
However, if i still owned both albums, it'd be Definitely Maybe I'd still pull out occasionally to listen to, rather than Morning Glory, which to me was showing signs already of a pompousness, overworked and overwroughts songs with basically pretty lamentable lyrics.... the pattern was being set...
Then out popped Be Here Now. Yikes.

Well I guess I'm a bit late to this discussion, but here are some of my faves from the Isles... 1. The Beatles (duh) 2. The Kinks 3. The Clash 4. The Rolling Stones 5. The Who 6. Black Sabbath 7. The Jam 8. The Smiths 9. Radiohead 10. Cream
I'll leave it at 10 for now....
IMO Ray Davies is probably the best song writer to come out of England. Something about his lyrics seem to capture more of England than any of the other writers. I'm sure I'll get flamed, but I think Ray was a better lyricist than Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Joe Strummer, Pete Townshend, and the whole lot of them....
"The Kinks were much more quintessentially English. I've always thought of Ray Davies as one Davies poet laureate. He invented a new kind of poetry and a new kind of language for pop writing which I think influenced me from the very very beginning." -- Pete Townshend

I figured you have the Kinks pretty high on your list, Paul. They get my respect (but not more than the Who!)
Hey, you're not too late for the 25 Greatest Rock and Roll Albums thread in this section. Ken's gone on strike.

This time last year, I would have ageed and said no way the Kinks are better than the Who; now however....... Both bands are great, but the Kinks are one of those bands that has so much stuff, yet so few (compared to their peers) know the depth of their catalouge. I don't know, they just really caught me off my guard. Once I really disected their 60's collection I was hooked and haven't look back. The Who released two of their most notorious classics in the 70's w/ Next & Quad, and both are maybe better than any Kinks material of that decade (except maybe Muswell Hillbillies). IMO though, the Kinks edged the Who out in the 60's (except maybe Sell Out)...

Speaking of UK rockers.... I got the remastered UK release of Between the Buttons, and that's quite the impressive album. I always overlooked that one, and just recently really listened to it. No shit, I think I like it better than Let It Bleed.
