yeah Frag, I was going to select Paint it Black, but it is still Under my Thumb, after all these years, that still resonates....though Gimme Shelter to me is THE most amazing Stones song.....hard to pick.....now my LEAST favorite Stones single might be Shattered......I know it was a huge hit and all, but it just didn't do it for me...much much preferred Beast of Burden from album of same.....
Now, if I was to pick a Eagles single I think I would go with Lyin Eyes or One of These Nights
and I omitted Jackson Browne...does anyone know if the Pretender or Fountain of Sorrow were released a singles?..if so, those are two utterly fantastic songs........

Bow!?
Quicksilver's 'Fresh Air' didn't make the cut? Quintessential hippy-dippy summer-of-love song.... I thought for sure the two of us would both have that one...'Burden Of Man'? Shit, I can't even recall that one....

I hear ya. I was down to those four myself (not "Shattered," on which I completely agree with you) but settled with "Paint it Black" only because it was the first Stones song I really got into. Now..."Back of my Hand" on their latest is one of the best new songs by an old band I've heard in a long long time. Friggin amazing live, too.

"One of These Nights" is my favorite Eagles song. Come to think of it, there's only four by them that I like at all. The rest I despise. Dunno why. Here are the four:
1. One of These Nights 2. Seven Bridges Road 3. Hotel California 4. Peaceful Easy Feeling

'Already Gone' is the best sing-along...shit, I simply NAIL that thing driving 80 miles an hour on the expressway....

Favorite Eagles song ... Life in the Fast Lane.
But that's sort of like being the world's tallest midget, isn't it?

I sort of like Peaceful Easy Feeling... it's a pretty decent song for those quiet summer nights, sitting on the deck with a beer.
(to clarify: not that I sit around listening to the Eagles at night... but I DO sometimes listen to this oldies show on the radio, and that one always fit well on those nights.)

warning to all: if you are aware of Ken's predilections, he has as much use for the Eagles as he does Billy Joel...there were some great moongirl/piper/ken exchanges on Billy Joel on the Beatles vs. Stones board....

Speaking of the Great Rock and Roll Satan ... I did mention that no votes for Billy Joel will be allowed in this poll, right? If anyone does accidentally vote for anything by BJ, said vote will count instead towards the tally of Sam the Sham's masterpiece, Wooly Bully. You think I'm kidding? Just try me ...

[glow=red,2,300]whispers into ken's ear[/glow]
Don't go changing, to try and please me You never let me down before Don't imagine you're too familiar And I don't see you anymore
I wouldn't leave you in times of trouble We never could have come this far I took the good times, I'll take the bad times I'll take you just the way you are
Don't go trying some new fashion Don't change the color of your hair You always have my unspoken passion Although I might not seem to care
I don't want clever conversation I never want to work that hard I just want someone that I can talk to I want you just the way you are.
I need to know that you will always be The same old someone that I knew What will it take till you believe in me The way that I believe in you.
I said I love you and that's forever And this I promise from the heart I could not love you any better I love you just the way you are.

And another thing ... I just noticed that someone mentioned "Seven Bridges Road" as an acceptable Eagles song ... and I cannot disagree more. Mundane, pedestrian, cliched, my mind fails me as it attempts to come up with adjectives that describe this absolutely wretched, completely mediocre slice of country-rock that never should have seen the light of day, much less been a single inflicted on the ears of the masses. Also, the Eagles "Live" album is probably the least live recording ever issued ... there's more studio re-touching on that beast than notes played in front of an audience.
Did I mention that the Eagles generally sucked? Why Don Henley bothers with them is beyond me. Says something about his taste in collaborators ... and while I'm at it, Henley is a great vocalist, but he's a pretty poor excuse for a rock and roll drummer. The band would have been better off to get a real drummer and give Henley a rythym guitar (kept low in the mix). Did I mention that the Eagles generally sucked?
