Damn! All this Wilco talk and I missed it.... I already talked a bit about them back on page 1, but so much discussion since....I'm glad to see "Casino Queen" got some love! This is just a fantastic song to hear live. Has anyone heard it live? This is embarrassing, but for some reason I don't have either of the Mermaid Ave. albums...Don't know why, I have everything by Wilco, but not those albums. I remember back in 1999 I started to listening to them, around 2001 I started preaching about them to my friends, and now in 2006 everyone I know likes this band. I've been fortunate enought to see them live 4 times, and two of those gigs at the 9:30 Club. It's such a treat to see a band like Wilco in a very small (1500 people tops) venue. Both shows there were incredible, but the first one was a bit more fun as Tweedy must have been in a country rock mood b/c they played a bunch of the foot stomping songs from the early days. The second show at the 9:30 was during the Ghost tour, and that was a trippy experience....All the weird noise, and the calm but chaotic vibe really messed w/ my senses; it was a blast. Anywho, some favorites off the top of my head (read I'll forget a few) and in no particular order: I'm the Man Who Loves You Kamera Pot Kettle Black At Least That's What You Said Hand Shake Drugs Theologians That's Not the Issue (have I mentioned I love banjo?) Casino Queen Box Full Of Letters How To Fight Loneliness A Shot In The Arm Summer Teeth Candy Floss (they played this gem at the 2nd 9:30 gig Misunderstood Forget The Flowers (did I mention I love banjo?) Hotel Arizona Dreamer In My Dreams (nothing like a drunken hootenanny) Outta Mind (Outta Sight) I'm sure I forgot multiple songs, but those are a few I really like.

I'm glad to see "Casino Queen" got some love! This is just a fantastic song to hear live. Has anyone heard it live? I have. I've seen Wilco five times now and Tweedy solo once. And "Casino Queen" was played twice, at the very first and third of their shows that I was at. Both on the YHF tour.

Lurve Ween. Their best album is certainly Chocolate and Cheese.

I honestly can't believe that I was the only one who voted for AGIB.

I can't believe that anyone voted for AGIB.
You did inspire some great Wilco related talk, though.
BTW, I'm better than half-way sure that Jesus, Etc. and Ashes of American Flags are the two most beautiful songs of the last ten years. And Misunderstood, all by itself, should be enough to get Wilco into the R and R Hall of Fame.

Who were the two people who voted for A.M.? At least one of those should have been for Being There.

I didn't consider voting for AGIB for a second, but that, IMO, is a much more understandable vote than a vote for AM. There's nothing on AM that wasn't done a thousand times better both before (on all the Uncle Tupelo albums) or after (on either Being There or the Mermaid Avenue discs). AM is, without question, Jeff Tweedy's lyrical lowpoint. It's also the least musically interesting Wilco disc. It's a good album, don't get me wrong, but I can't think of a single aspect in which it is better than another Wilco album.

Passenger Side is the only song from A.M. that I would rank with the band's very best work. And even there, it's hard to say that it's better than any particular track from Being There. And as bad as I think AGIB is, I certainly can understand that if you're into pretentious wankery (and cold, impersonal production) that this would be your favorite Wilco release. (Sorry if that offended any big fans of AGIB, but I'm really getting grouchy now).
