Ramble On - its a nostalgic favourite, one of the best singalong choruses.
I love Black Dog though. If you sing that to a woman, she might well marry you the next morning. I would. Except if you got the words wrong, I'd marry you to divorce you & take all your money.

Tempted by No Quarter, Dazed and Confused, Going to California and When the Levee Breaks. But ended up voting for Kashmir.

I voted "Bron - Y - Aur Stomp"; I suppose it's the southern boy in me, but I love that damn song. It's like a good 'ol hootenany.
I'm not a huge Zep fan, but I pretyy much love everything on LZ1 and LZ3. "Kashmir" is horrible, and "Stairway To Heaven" = most overrated song in the history of rock. IMPO "Comumunication Breakdown" kicks the crap out of both those songs.

I hope one day somebody will give me a rational explanation to that whole "Most overrated this or that ..." business !!
What are the criterias and who decides what is "overrated" ... ??
Anyone can make a case for "Stairway to Heaven" being the most OVERPLAYED song in the history of Music but overated ... ??

^^^ Well for my 2 cents I was never a big fan of it. When I later found out how wildly popular it was I thought what shite, it's overrated. By overrated, I mean it's both not as good as most make it out to be, and it's overplayed. People just getting into music (classic rock) seem to flock to this song, and hold it in such high esteem. In my opinion it has always sucked, and always will. I hate this song like Ken hates the Doors.

Seriously, I think anyone with a credible critical perspective (which is to say most anyone on these boards) can say that in their opinion something or someone is over (or under) rated. When there are enough people who do this, then there's a revisionist take on that artist, which can move them up or down in the general evaluation of rock and roll history and merit.

So it always comes back to subjective impressions ... ??
Why don't people just come on and say "I don't like this or I hate that..." instead of weighing in with that "overrated" business which IMO means absolutely nothing ...
Someone's overrated band or song is always somebody else's underrated band or song ... !!
Big fuckin' deal ...

I hate most of LZ4, and Houses of the Holy

I think it's a matter of when the legend has far exceded the event or artist. The music industry is one hype and often times the hype catches on and the myth becomes larger then reality. As Ken said alot of poeple around here have enough of knowledge and historical perspective that it's more then just an opinion....yeah it's still an opinion but a pretty well imformed one. My opinion is that The Velvet Underground are one of the most overrated bands in history. That is to say it my opinion that the small but very loyal following of VU have convinced themselves that Vu are more important then they really were. Several of them post here on this very board...ask the right question and they may reveal themselves. Of course who's to say I'm right or wrong? No one can say for certain but as long as you can bring a reasonably valid argument for whatever it is you think you're in business.

My favorite Zep song is off their debut,
BABE I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU
It features unprecedented finger-pickin from Jimmy, those steel strings are so evocative to me, and then when Robert jumps in with "Baby .. . baby . . .baby, I'm gonna leave you..."
"I ain't jokin' woman I got to ramble"
All of Jimmy's fingerpickin interludes are stellar, and then when the song breaks down at the end for a footstompin finale, it just sends shivers up & down my spine, I have to say this is definitive Zep for me.
"And I know that one day baby, it’s really gonna grow, yes it is. We gonna go walkin’ through the park every day. Hear what I say, every day. Baby, it’s really growin’, you made me happy when the skies were grey. But now I’ve got to go away-!"

All fine and dandy but in the end it all boils down to I-DON'T-LIKE IT-SO-IT-HAS-TO-BE-OVERRATED ...
Only time decides who's a legend and it's pretty hard (not to mention pointless)to argue about a legend ...
Doesn't mean you have to agree though ...

Oh please, Phil.....you already KNOW you cannot rely on 'logic' when it comes to music. Emotion trumps it ALL...especially in someone who really feels music.
So stop trying to apply logic, eh? ;D
'How Many More Times' finally took my vote up here....and I think that everyone should give that songs another listen to see how a proper rock song is constructed.
Thin Lizzy's Cold Sweat would be another example.

But it has very little to do with what I like or don't like...there is a very logical process to it. I'm a really big Lemonheads fan but you're never going to see me go on about how great they are becuase I know it's pruely a personal thing. They never had any great impact on music and I'm fine with that. Where as I can freely admit I band I hate, The Doors, have their place in history. In fact the problem comes in when people can't remove their personal tastes from the discussion. Of course as with everything else there will be some biases but it's all about have some grasp on historical perspective.

Heard anything lately about the new Lemonheads release? I think it's got potential, if Baby, I'm Bored was any indicator. I love that album.
