While it's perfectly acceptable and ok even to dislike or outright hate on the mighty Zep, the plain bottom line is, if you do, you're simply not a rocker, that's all.

Don't confuse me by telling me about 10th Avenue Freezeout...you still don't know shit about 'wankery', ha! ;D ~ The PBS station here had the Bruce @ Hammersmith show on, on Saturday night....the version there of She's The One was just i mpossibly good. Gave me the friggin goosebumps...and the way Bittan POUNDED the keys, AI! And it was a short song! Did you catch the slow burn version of The E Street Shuffle? Also absolutely amazing. That whole show is just incredible ... and the level of intensity that Bruce had, and the control and interplay between him and the rest of the band (esp. Miami Steve and Bittan) ... wow. Roy Bittan is probably the most underrated keyboard player in rock. He can play almost any style, and it's no accident that he was the one member of the E Street Band that Bruce took with him on his solo excursion in the nineties. Just a remarkable musician.

Well, I don't hate them, and I actually find (as I noted in an earlier post) that Led Zeppelin 1 and 3 are damn good album; I give them frequent rotation in my always revolving mix. It's just that I'm not a big fan of the rest of their albums; especially LZ4 and Houses of the Holy. I even like In Through The Out Door more than Houses. Physical Grafitti sans Kashmir, is pretty good as well.

Both ! An endless loop of "Light My Fire" and "Stairway to Heavens" ... !! I think I could it if on every third loop the Stairway was the Zappa version.

He can play almost any style, and it's no accident that he was the one member of the E Street Band that Bruce took with him on his solo excursion in the nineties. Just a remarkable musician. Bittan is Springsteen's version of Bowie's Mike Garson...simply incredible players and pretty much essential to their bandleaders' sound in ways even beyond simply tinkling the piano keys...I think they're both a part of their bands' overall compositional sense. You prob could list Benmont Tench right here too. That Hammersmith show is a knockout on SO many different levels, especially if you're a rock fan aware of the history...and the special point in time that that show came AT the Hammersmith Odeon, the premier London showcase venue. He had such a great fucking audience there too. Lucky bastards...and THEY knew it too. ~ ...and yeah, like thorn said, if you can bring yourself to simply dog Zeppelin unapologetically, totally unappreciatively then you just haven't got the soul of a rocker. They be a hole in yo muthefukkin' soul!
Word.

How the West Was Won has some really kick ass moments. I've only saw it once and can't remember the whole thing, but I remember being entertained while watching it. I have friends who own it; it may be time to borrow it.

Anyone can make a case for "Stairway to Heaven" being the most OVERPLAYED song in the history of Music but overated ... ??
Well said, Phil. My sentiments exactly.

I just happened to be pondering today how nobody on these boards speaks of or praises Led Zeppelin in the light that I praise Blind Melon or luke praises the Pumpkins, or JAC praises Sigur Ros, or JLLM praises Radiohead or Riley praises Rush, or pcook praises The Kinks. Why is that??? Lemme know who I missed here. Anyhoo, Led Zeppelin is undoubtedly the greatest rock band ever, only rivaled by Floyd and U2 if you ask me. Of course I can't pick from those three so I can't say that Led Zeppelin is my absolute favorite. But there certainly isn't a better band, in my book. I can't even grasp how anyone would think there is a better band and I've heard lots of music that I heard of through you guys. Still, nothing matches Led Zep. Not even Radiohead. But that's just me. Mock if you will, Zeppelin is the shiznit!

Yup, thorn's hit it.
Zeppelin is in no way in any sort of an 'underdog' role...the fuckers owned rock and roll from 1970 pretty much...influencing countless metallistes.
There's nothing to 'defend'.
