Yeah, and how can you argue with statements like "Geddy Lee is better vocalist than [Jimmy] Page?" I mean, that's self-evident, right?!
Hey, everybody screws up sometimes ... and I'm still right ...
God I hate Led Zeppelin.

I've never heard Jimmy Page sing, but I bet I would like it better than I like Geddy Lee's singing.

Ken seems confused about who sang in Led Zeppelin. Oh really, go back and check out my post now ... ;D I gotta start proofing these things more closely ... too many Bowiglouisms popping up ... who knew that those just started of their own accord once you got over forty? Ken ~ It gets worst when you'll past fifty ... I thought I should warn you ;D

That's okay Phil ... I've decided that since I hate my birthday anyway, and always get depressed during that time of year, I'm not going to have any more or 'em. Yep, I can deal with 41, and so that's where I'm gonna stay!
If another year passes and no one acknowledges it, has the year really passed?

The best day ever back on the old RS boards was the day when JCNeil was saying how terrble a singer Roger Daltrey was, he said all you had to do was listen to Stairway To Heaven to see for yourself. It went on for about three hours and I have never luaghed so hard at a message board. I was crying and late for work because I just couldn't bring myself to turn the computer off.

Man, Blues based rock hasn't done anything for me in a long time. The White Stripes is about as close as I will get and that's mostly because it's atleast interesting. The question answer thing with Plant mimicing Page's guitar wankery was always super annoying if you ask me. That was soooo unneccesary. I think one of the main things I liked about Zeppelin was of course the drums and the fact that Page lived in a former house of Aleister Crowley and sang about Tolkein. Other than that it didn't really have much else going for it.

How is it that Lee takes so much heat for the early catalogue high vocal style, yet it's only every so ofetn someone mentions how high and ridiculous Plant sounded on tracks like "Immigrant Song", "Ramble On" and "The Lemon Song". Plus has anyone ever looked at what fucking lame song titles those guys had. There's actually an unreleased b-side being released by Zep later this year called "Rileydog's Sleeping Because We Bored The Fuck Out of Him with Our Staple Riffing and Half Arsed Song Titles" I just want to note that every single time I have bitched about Led Zeppelin, I have complained about Page's singularly annoying high pitched squeals. And the big reason that I voted for Rush here is that Geddy Lee was able to largely put aside his earlier Plant-influenced wailing in favor of actually singing, beginning with permanent waves. Also, in terms of influential ... yeah, Zeppelin influenced every metal band on the planet - is that necessarily a good thing? Doesn't having to account for bands like White Snake pretty much tilt the ledger towards crap? And like 'em or not, Rush were one of the few (only?) seventies metallic bands to really incorporate the new sounds of the early eighties into their music. The effects and synths of Tom Sawyer presaged a different way of constructing rock music, one that (like punk) largely ditched the r&b foundations of the sixties in favor of its own unique beat and sensibility. As much as I've slammed Geddy Lee, he's a far better singer than Plant, and an amazing bass player (from a technical standpoint anyway). Fuck, I'm beginning to sound like a goddamn Canuck! Next thing you know, I'll be asking Riley or Drum to send me a copy of Moving Pictures ... or maybe I can find it in the used bin ... I'll be sure to wear a hat and sunglasses so no one will recognize me. Damn you Rileydog! You and Drum now have me writing defenses of Rush! Goes to show just how much I hate Led Zeppelin ... This is good, Ken. Really coming along there.

I knew that you'd like that post, Drum.
I will, however, go on record saying that The Trees is every bit as awful as anything that Zeppelin ever recorded. There's plenty of really horrible stuff in the Rush catalog, but most of that was early in their career. They get huge points from me for the fact that they really did grow as a band, instead of churning out the same crap over and over.
And Lifeson's guitar work is the really overlooked gem in the group. He's not as flashy a player as Lee or Peart, but he's a very creative and effective guitar player.
OK, I feel really unclean heaping this much praise on Rush ... I need to take a shower, or listen to some Television or something ...
