As for the swat team, they've requested some caviar and foie gras. Upscale tastes, these fellows, but not particularly concerned about cruelty to ducks. Foie gras is illegal in Chicago. True story.

Foie gras are awesome. Best damn thing I ever tasted in my life. Yeah I know it's cruel but still. They're awesome.
I'll probably get a good flogging from samples for that, but I'll take her whip like a man.

I had never heard of foie gras until reading the last few post....it has a pretty interesting history. I'm not at all curious to try it though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foie_gras

I don't care much about foie gras myself but I can understand the appeal for it ...
Better-Half loves it and there is a restaurant in Montréal that serves a "Poutine au foie gras" that's supposed to be out of this world ...
As for the controversy over the force-feeding of birds, seems to me some people should really get their priorities straight !!

Wow, foie gras looks vile. Don't worry birds, your livers are safe with me. Yech.

I'm just curious how the force feeding of anything should be viewed as anything less than a priority. To be honest I'm not entirely sure what foie gras is, but not surprisingly it sounds completely repugnant to this guy. Culinary and lifestyle preferences aside, I'm assuming the controversy lies somewhere in the ducks being force fed? Is that the deal? If that's the case, maybe humans need to be force fed some perspective on allowing their food to have some dignity and respect before they enjoy it.

I'm not sure how force feeding ducks until their liver is oversized can be seen as anything other then abuse.

OK, I actually just read that entire article that Paul posted. That's pretty fucked up.

I missed the article originally, but after reading it, my position on the whole ridiculous concept stands.

Culinary and lifestyle preferences aside, I'm assuming the controversy lies somewhere in the ducks being force fed? Is that the deal? That's correct. I haven't read about it in depth, but considering how many places have banned foie gras, it must be pretty awful, since so many other abuses in raising animals for food are overlooked.

In fairness to this sickening little delicacy it's probably easier for the animal abuse groups to tackle and actually get somethign done because it's not a mainstream dish. To Rocky's point there are countless shameless animal abuses in the food production industry that are just as sickening, but far tougher to regulate because of the corporate lobby for mass produced/consumed animal food products. "Sure we'll get onside with saving a few ducks, but we're sure as fuck not giving up our steroid pumped beakless chickens" I am willing to re-direct my soap box to another thread though in fairness to this one, since practices of de-beaking chickens to get more of them in cages is probably not post of the day material. My apologies for getting my shit in a knot on this stuff, but it's kind of important to me.

Phil would respond, but he's busy force feeding his kid a boot in the ass. Lol ! Exactly one hour before the shit will hit the fan !! And I couldn't care less about a practice that's been done for thousands of years but I will say this : I'm pretty sure most breeders care a lot more about their birds than any of you here ... I've had goats, I've done the butcher thing ... Only people who don't eat any kind of meat or meat product are entitled to bitch about this ... ! Again, it's a question of priorities !! IMNSHO, of course ...
