The new sloan album is pretty awful. You can just go back into hiding if you're gonna come spouting that kinda bullshit.

It has a few good songs but they could have cut well over half of it. or just like fill it up with The Other Man and some avant garde album by Andrew.

The Other Man is the worst song in the history of Canadian music. IT sounds like "Who's Crying Now" by Journey. Listen to them both and tell me I'm wrong. The new album is good Shane. Get off the glue.

Hey, don't be popping your head back in here just to knock Journey.

It says here that a song isn't eligible for worst in the history of Canadian music unless it was co-written by Jim Vallance, involves a production credit for David Foster or the artist has been featured in their own CBC variety show.

Well, since Riley won't pop in on Sedaka to answer this question, maybe someone else can before I leave this evening:
What members have been touring with BSS lately, and who are they likely to drag down to New Orleans for tomorrow's show?
I need to know! I can't wait!
Also, I don't really mind "The Other Man", although I hold Pretty Together in higher regard than most. But there's well over a dozen songs on the new album that are better than "The Other Man."
This new album, I think, was Sloan giving up on the idea of breaking out in the States. Instead, they ditched the AC/DC gimmick, went back to their roots, and recorded way too many songs knowing that their not going to win any new ears, so why not just have fun and give their fans thirty songs to play with.
Yeah, there's too many songs on it. But I'll bet that, with one or two exceptions, none of us would be able to agree which songs should have been cut.

Thanks a lot for that.
Pretty sure Feist wasn't there in '04 either. Ah well, Millan more than works for me. Set-list looks pretty good. Definitely excited.

And so begins the annual end-of-year stock-taking; the 33 Hottest bands in Canada for 2006. Could do with a bit of a reshuffle in places, I think, plus the addition of a few MIAs.

Necessary reshuffling and replacements aside, a valiant effort.

Absolutely but the quibbling is half the fun with this kind of stuff, innit? Like for instance, I still love the Arcade Fire but I'm not sure they really should make the list in an off year, when they were out of public view in the studio, just on the basis of anticipation for 2007. (The comments from Pregnant Without Intercourse were spot on, BTW, the backlash has been bubbling up to a boil for a while now.)

Give that man his day off, dammit. Oh man, Drum. I actually did manage to get this day off, and it's all thanks to this post of yours. I owe you a big one, and I have no idea how to repay you. But thanks dude. So I'm seeing Polaris next Friday hell yeah. In case you didn't know I absolutely love Polaris (the band, not the award), so this really makes my life suck less now. Thanks again Drum.

I'm sort of with you on the Arcade Fire idea, though. And even though I'm not at all a fan of Final Fantasy, I pretty much expected him to come in at #1. And there are, unsurprisingly, a few bands on here I'm not even familiar with. Hey, maybe they should have added Bob Dylan to the list. I mean, I know he's not a band, and I know he's not Canadian... but apparently he belongs on every best-of list. That said - Jon-Rae and the River (#13) is possibly my favourite discovery of this year, aside from the Burdocks (thanks again Riley.) They're doing a show here tomorrow night that I sort of want to go to - because their live show is supposed to be fantastic - but no one will go with me and I don't have it in me to go alone to a show like that. Stupid friends. Stupid husband.
