So which solo Viktor will you have, Far From Enough or II.?? I was planning on burning it for you if you lacked either...... Was trying to find a download for Douglas' Best Kept Secret as it's got his cover of Weather Reports' "A Remark You Made" on it --- saw him perform that when he was here in town with the Prairie Home Companion show and it was just simply too, tooooo nice! Howard Levy was also sitting in with the PHC band and 'blew' me away as well with his harp playing. I did manage to grab a copy of this off the Net tonight: Levy, Steve Smith, Jerry Goodman, Oteil Burbridge Stranger's HandAnother not-too-shabby collection of players.......

Runaways - Art of Fighting Damn you maarts, why didn't you tell me that Art of Fighting were coming out with a new album! I damn near missed this (good thing I noticed it before leaving the store)! Melodic and melancholy to the extreme. Good good stuff. Pimpoint - Soil & "Pimp" Sessions Holy fucking shit, this album is unbelievable. This is not melancholy at all, it's like a ruthless hunk of machinery that clobbers everything in its way. The trumpet and sax players are totally ripping my world apart. "Death jazz" indeed. Serious contender for best album of 2007. Holy shit. Man, I don't know whether to be glad or pissed off that I got two great albums at the same time. I can't listen to them simultaneously, so I'm constantly feeling guilty about snubbing whichever CD I'm not spinning.

Have spun it twice now, and it is GOOD! All hail the skinny puppies, OhGr's influence is creeping/staining/infecting its electro-house ambience deeper into the skinny puppy raison d'etre, but after hearing Mythmaker twice on my record player, I'm quite pleased with the results. This one is a tad more organic, creepy, and electronic than their last, THE GREATER WRONG OF THE RIGHT (which I personally feel is a freaking masterwerk in its own right), and by the sounds percolating under the surface of this latest one - - not to mention the lyrics (as grim and cutting as ever) -- we've got ourselves a reason to rejoice, skinny puppy is re-emerging into the 21st century as a relevant post-industrial outfit. Can I get a hallelujah from the snivelling, feral lost boys and girls in the crowd ?

Viktor Krauss IINICE followup to the debut I bought a couple of days ago. Has a bit more grooving bite with the guitar attack at times but it all still leans more into tastefull instumental fare of, hmmmm,,,jazz-country??? Hell, I don't know how to pigeonhole this....Kruass is moody one time and then almost funky the next. The dude has depth tho' no matter WHAT format he's playing out! 'Doc are you getting this one on hold at the library?? If not, let me know and I'll burn you a copy as I've got a few other irons already in the works for ya!

Nonono, I picked up Far From Enough yesterday (along with an embarassing 7 others...and this IS ridiculous! All of them are great too, ai!)....tho man, still I'd lo-o-ove the new one!
Got the new Lindsey Buckingham too(!)...but I haven't even had a free couple of hours to listen to some of this stuff.
Plus my Mom's 85th was today. Responsibilities, but nice ones.
The there was the stupidly 'spent time' at the Pink Floyd board here however....
I've also just gotten a Iggy Pop live from '78 that WILL peel he paint off of WALLS! THAT one I listened too right away.
Gotta get this one to Bowiglou also....I sent him an Ig Live awhile back...oh, he'd dig this one!
Rock your socks off too, if you want.
The Jerry Douglas I haven't forgotten either, Brother Don...

Are My Friend The Chocolate Cake an instrumental band? I remember one of their songs on the Australian mix that maarts sent me, and I rather liked them iirc. Speaking of Australian bands... Grand National - John Butler Trio Holy shit wow.

I scored this original 1985 pressing of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' second LP, The Firstborn Is Dead. The above picture depicts both the front and back covers. I had never heard this album, and let me tell you: After side 1 finished, it had already launched its way through the bullseye of my heart, and into the #1 spot as my favorite Cave album. Remember: I'm not as versed in Cave's discography nearly as much as sisy or mary; there's only a handful of his albums I'm familiar with. As of hearing this truly amazing recording, I feel as if I've been infected with the true, blue Nick Cave virus, now. Sisy played me The Boatman's Call and a couple others (Henry's Song, Kicking Against The Pricks), and I was pretty floored by those, too. The ones I've known are Murder Ballads, Let Love In, and various other tracks I've heard from sisy's iPod and such. This record The Firstborn Is Dead is dark and furious, stripped down, beautiful, and deadly. It's like some Old Testament rock revival sort of record. I also scored this other incredibly rare find: I used to have a taped cassette version of this 5-song EP, back in the 80s. I've long since lost that tape. Imagine my surprise when I found this original pressing from 1982 on vinyl for only 5 bucks. In very good condition, both of these albums made my weekend.

"The Firstborn is Dead" is a fantastic record. I'm also a big fan of "From Her To Eternity".
