Franz Ferdinand- after the rave up it's been getting here and elsewhere, i finally broke down and bought it. Decent enough pop, but could easily be The Strokes Volume Three ;D

I actually did buy an album yesterday - first album I've bought since January!! Found the second Siouxsie and the Banshees compilation - Twice Upon a Time - in a used bin for 5.99 at Amoeba, too good to pass up. I had just put a couple of Siouxsie tunes on a mix tape i was making for punkchick, and was struck by how mesmerizing they can be, so I've been in quite a Siouxsie mood lately....
It's crazy though. Usually by mid-May of any given year, I've bought maybe 20 CDs. This year I think I've bought 3. It's not just that I'm broke, though that's certainly the case. It's just that recently my film obsession has trumped even my music obsession, and I've been buying lots of DVDs... most recently picked up Midnight Cowboy and The Last Picture Show....
Cheers,
M

Continue to chip away at my Guided By Voices collection.
Bought Universal Truths & Cycles this week.
Rocky had told me a while back that it mixed almost perfectly the lo-fi buzz of older GBV with the newer lsightly tighter and cleaner GBV. Have to agree. SOlid disc.

My CD purchasing the last few years seems to have almost died in favor of DVDs, but once that collection gets built up it will probably even out. Though, when I do buy a CD I want to buy more.

I had my first eaten post here last night! Argh!!
For my latest music purchase I went back to the well to replace a couple of scratchy vinyl (yes, vinyl!) records with pristine new CDs. I got an Allmans' and a Molly Hatchet CD. Having seen Molly Hatchet again (after years) last month at a festival in Tampa (along with Blue Oyster Cult and Paul Rodgers, as well as catching the Wholigans the night before - they were great!) I wanted to hear both versions of Dreams back-to-back. It's like a religious experience. They are both great recordings. The way the Allmans did it in 11/4, 3/4, and 4/4 is amazing enough, and Molly Hatchet's take all in 4/4 works so well, too. It was a very different and excellent nod to the Allmans. Man, Gregg's voice was in rare form on that one. It will send shivers up your spine and give you goosebumps.

Molly Hatchet. Shit. We are in the territory of serious classic rock geekdom ;P

Don't look into the light, Mary! Actually, that cover of Dreams has a very high level of integrity and artistry. Surprising, perhaps, but it's not Beating the Odds, etc.

I do intend to buy the new Gomez album and see for myself what it's like. I have to say that the first couple of singles I've heard on Triple J here in Australia have pretty much washed over me without me noticing them... which isn't a great sign, but they're a band that until now I have loved, so I gotta give them a go!!!

Yesterday I bought the new Franz Ferdinand, and I must admit, I am really enjoying it so far. Overhyped or not, it's still a lot of fun. Mary, I know what you mean. I haven't bought too many CDs in the past few months either. But now that I'm almost out of school, and I'll probably be working again soon, I will definitely be making a lot more trips to the record store this summer. ~PunkChick

Don't be dissin' the Hatchet, M!
(BTW, I was surprised to find "Dreams" on many a karaoke list in my town -- even more susprised that my singing voice sounds quite a bit like Danny Joe Brown's. At my current pace, I'll be up to his weight, too.)
My last three CD purchases...
Train of Thought - Dream Theater Sweet Tea - Buddy Guy Welcome to My Nightmare - Alice Cooper (to replace my scuffed-up ol' vinyl version)
