aww....I like you too, bowiglou ~ ! My favourite prog-rockers are Rush, King Crimson, Tool . . . I haven't listened to YES in years, so I just had to check some of it out again when I set up my new turntable. I can't wait to get the following progressive-metal albums on vinyl ASAP: UNTOUCHABLES by Korn Lateralus by Tool Vol III: The Subliminal Verses by Slipknot Train Of Thought by Dream Theatre *VINYL RULES*!!!!

Just bought the Very Short Films DVD...a Flyining Nun music video collection....heres the sales blurb from smokecds.com
Just in time for New Zealand's May Music Month comes what arguably many New Zealand music fans will find simply essential. Flying Nun has long been the label that is most often associated with New Zealand music, particularly that of an "indie" or "alternative" nature, with a slew of unique acts over the last twenty years or so that have defined "independent" music in this country. And so to 'Very Short Films: Flying Nun DVD'. Containing a massive 41 videos, from the early days of The Clean, Gordons, Great Unwashed, Double Happys, Bored Games and Verlaines, through the creatively "heady" days of The Chills, Straitjacket Fits, Headless Chickens, Tall Dwarfs, Chris Knox, The Bats, JPS Experience, 3Ds, Bailterspace and Snapper, to more recent successes such as Bike, Garageland, HDU, The D4, Panam, Betchadupa and The Mint Chicks, plus numerous points in-between, this is a superb visual overview of this important slice of New Zealand's pop music culture. My one small gripe - in order to represent all bands fairly and equally (as is the Flying Nun way of course) a number of the label's "heavy hitters" such as The Chills, Straitjacket Fits, Verlaines, The Clean, Headless Chickens, Bailterspace, JPS Experience, etc only get one video a piece. Like I say a very small gripe, and maybe the perfect reason for a volume number two (here's hoping). Actually there are some quite fantastic songs and clips here, which all simply confirms the validity of Flying Nun's vision and credibility in the world of "indie" music today. Thoroughly recommended.
Be brave...check it out....

over the weekend i picked up "make yourself comfortable..it's pearl jam". it's a live disc from 1996 in hartford, ct.
today i picked up the new modest mouse. i've been hearing great reviews about this cd.
i also picked up "the pipe dreams of instant prince whippet" by guided by voices. i've noticed that a lot of RS posters really enjoy their stuff, and i read somewhere that they are like neutral milk hotel..a band i really enjoy listening to. i really have no clue as to what to expect, as i'm very ignorant when it comes to this band, but i hope i'm not disappointed.

oh Straw, what about picking that DVD, and sending it to me for wedding gift!!................as much as I have loved the Clean, Chills, Straitjacket fits, etc..and have heard bits of pieces of the Verlains and the Bats, I have no idea what they all look like!!!
thorny, maybe some day I'll get into prog rock.....then again, as my brother would so delicately put it, maybe that will happen the same day rabid bats fly out of my behind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been looking for Gang of Four's Entertainment! for years now, finally broke down and ordered it online. While I was at it, I ordered Rancid's And Out Come the Wolves from the same vendor.

Feeling inclined to buy the new Fear Factory album, have heard it at my cousin's place and it was impressive enough! I dunno though, on a real savings kick of late, have to get my plane ticket to visit the Beautiful and wonderful Mellie...
I'll probably pick it up some time soon though!

I don't know about that. . . .yeah I guess they're alright...saw em live openin for slipknot. . . .but I did get the new 'Knot album, and lemme tell ya...it is really beter than their old crap. For 1, it does not feature a "Parental Advisory Sticker" - and that is because there is no cursing on it. I believe it is called "The Subliminal Verses" because they intend for it to bypass the Parent's normal guard by having produced a work free of technical vulgarity -- yet teeming with subversive, intelligent, anti-authoritarian lyrics. And it has got the wickedest beats & riffs...and superhot, smokin guitar leads-! (something utterly lacking on their other junk) Yeah it's def a "step up" for the ol' masked crew of freaks, with 1 very moving acoustic ballad, replete with string section and meaningful, poetic lyrics. Corey Taylor can actually write some mean lines. A very impressive move in a new direction for them -- y'all should check it out (if you like hard/heavy music).
