Skvor -- great capsule reviews! LOL funny, and to the point. Well done!
Of course I don't think I've heard a single one of those albums, and there's no way I'd give anything by Beck a 9, but hey, it was still well written.

I am pulling together a top ten for this year...in no particular order, at this point:
M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem The Juan Maclean - Less Than Human Vitalic - OK Cowboy Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs Stephen Malkmus - Face The Truth Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise Calla - Collisions Dangerdoom - The Mouse and the Mask
Because this was a top ten, I had to leave out the Edan album, which I spun a ton, and a host of others (Kills, Doves, Idlewild, Common, etc.). None of the above mentioned are as dear to me as Minimum Maximum, but since none of the songs are original, I won't count it. Also, I expect someone in y eventual top three to make room for Broken Social Scene, and if the Franz Ferdinand is as good as the new single implies, they will pick up a place in the top 10.

Yes....I have and I think they are really really good. They have a great frantic energy about them that I really like.

Thunderbirds Are Now!, I mean........
I finally heard the Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah and personally I think that they are nothing more than the Williamsburg Arcade Fire that you are supposed to like. I admire they work ethic and desire to not be apart of the scum of major labels, but the jury is still out for me as far as the ethic on their actual music. It's hard for me because Hype bands usually make me sick. Having said that I am looking forward to the new Broken Social Scene and I am also secretly hoping that the new Franz Ferdinand falls right on it's face and fails miserably. When I head that Gang of Four opened for them, I almost shot someone at random that's how miffed I was.

While I disgree with most of Skvor's ratings I do agree about CYHSY...most overrated band since the Arcade Fire.

I was thinking that they'd be something up your alley, but then again, I sometimes have trouble pegging what it is you like based on your posts. I'm seeing them tonight for probably the 6th or 7th time and always get pretty excited for their shows. The album they put out this year is pretty fantastic.

I must champion French Kiss Records for giving them a chance as the album "Justamustache" is justsogood.

I thought the Arcade Fire was nowhere near deserving of the acclaim if received last year...however, I really, really like the CYHSY album. Cliqued with it from the first listen, which is tough for me to do, so...
Listening to new Deathcab right now, DED.

CYHSY is ok until the singer starts bleating. Seriously, how hard could it be to find somebody that could sing in a less annoying manner. The Arcade Fire are pretty bad as well. Except for Haiti, which isn't too bad, but all it does is make me want to listen to Fear of Music.
and I thought skvorisdeadsorta used to hate Spoon.

Sorry Skvor. I just don't hear one ounce of Pavement in The Bloc Party. Like at all. With the Bloc Party everything seems to be tuned properly, the lyrics make sense for the most part, it even sounds like they spent a couple dollars on production.
Pavement were brilliant largely because they didn't do any of those things.
The Bloc Party are wonderful for a host of other reasons. They've borrowed slightly from the 80's esthetic, without raping it completely like a few of their half arsed contemporaries. The tempo shifts are far quirkier than anything else I've heard new this year, barring perhaps some of the electronic and sampled type stuff getting press. Instrumentally they're extrememly competent without shifting into prog territory and losing the energy factor (sometimes I just listen to the drums - ridiculous - guy's doing more with his hi-hat than Larry Mullen Jr. does with his whole fucking kit). Plus their lead singer's black, and it seems to be continually shocking to people who've never seen them.
I can't think of two bands more different to be honest.
