Eldest Son is in LOVE !!
Saw him give a kiss to his girlfriend last night …
Boy ! Did it bring back lots of adolescent memories and made me aged a few years all at the same time !!
He “met” her on the Internet a few months ago And they’ve been corresponding every night ever since.
Funny thing is she lives in the town where I was born and spent the first 8 years of my life …
Better-Half was happy that the girl lives some 200 KMs away from her son But it was written that they would meet face to face one day.
During the Holidays recess, I drove him on a single day trip So he could finaly spend a few hours with her.
I met her mother but I didn’t get to meet the “object” of Eldest Son’s … affection.
After that first meeting, she came to Québec city once To spend the weekend with her cousin’s at her uncle’s house And Better-Half did manage to get a glimpse at the girl. Told me she looks exactly like Avril Lavigne And she wasn’t sure she was more than 5’ tall (E.S. is almost 5’ 10” !)
Eldest Son was then invited to spend a whole weekend at her parents’ house, Better-Half was not thrilled to see him take the bus to be with “Avril” … !!
Now it was our turn to return the favour and we went to pick her up last night And I finaly did get to meet the young lady … She does indeed look exactly like Avril Lavigne and she is as cute as she is small !!
I got out of the car to speak to her uncle, telling him I would take very good care of his niece like she was my own daughter And it was when, from the corner of my eye, I saw Eldest Son in a tight full lip lock with the girl !!
Holy fuckin’ sacred cows !!
I have to say it gave me a small shock to see my own son In the arms of a girl who was not his mother, aunts or cousin … !!

Maarts! that pun...
aww Phil, your boy is all grown up. However worried you are though - just think how the girl's father feels!
I remember the first boyfriend I brought home. My mother was sweet to him (although she didn't approve of his Kurt Cobain-styling, which made me love his unkempt blonde hair all the more), but my father...
My dad is a 6'4 bikie/truckie & he looks the part. Tatts all down his arms, biker moustache & happened to be wearing his riding jacket when he met the boyfriend. Poor boyfriend didn't know what to do with himself - Dad barely said a word, just shot death looks. I was mortified.
The boyfriend took off soon after. Dad got a little better with each passing boyfriend - the last one I took home (who will be the LAST one thank goodness), was like "shit...your father looks like he wants to kill me already!", but Dad actually loved him on sight.
I don't know how my dating years got by with zero casualties, but my father says I'm the daughter who caused his hair to start balding & gave him high blood pressure...
Your son will be fine, Phil. Just make sure Avril doesn't have him wrapped around her little finger. Girls are good at that...

Just talked to my step-mom. Apparently my dad had a heart attack this morning.
Had some chest pains when he got up this morning and ignored them (which is what I would have expected him to do to be honest). Then went to my grandparents as he does every Sunday morning. On the way home had massive chest pains (told my step-mom that on a scale of 1-10, they were 10). So when he got home he immediately had her take him to the hospital. He'd thought he'd had a heart attack while driving back from my grandparents', but when he got there they did some tests and they told him that he did not have one. Then, while they were running more tests, he did have a heart attack.
I guess if you're going to have a heart attack, the hospital is the best place to do it. They did surgery pretty quickly -- found 99% blockage in one atrium. I guess he's going to be alright. He's way overweight and a heavy smoker, so hopefully this will be the wake up call. Who knows. My step-mom insisted to me that she will be diligent about helping/forcing him to get his health in order, but I don't know if I trust her to. She's not nearly as overweight as him, but not for lack of trying, and nearly as heavy a smoker. Supposedly she's going to quit along with him, but we'll see. If she lets him slip back into his old heavy smoking/overeating habits I'm gonna be pissed.

oh shit, that sucks, Rocky. I guess the good thing is your dad was already in hospital & they were able to get him into surgery quick.
yeah, lets hope his health starts improving.
***good health vibes for Rocky's dad***

Indeed, hoping this will be a good outcome for you Rocky, and it sounds like it will be. But I wouldn't be too hard on stepmom if he either refuses to change or backslides. People are stubborn and it's his life. People seldom quit bad habits for health reasons. I don't know why, but it's true. But some do take the "wakeup call," and maybe he will. Best of luck.

Oh yeah, I realize that when it comes down to it, it will be his decision whether or not to change his lifestyle. It certainly was his decisions that lead to him being so unhealty to begin with; I certainly don't blame her for it. But I'm concerned that she may not make it especially easy for him. When I was living there, she was always simultaneously lecturing him on his eating habits while also cooking these huge meals. And, as I said, she's a pretty heavy smoker herself. If she's making huge meals for him every night and then lighting up a cigarette afterwards herself, then I don't see it being very likely that he'll turn his life around at all. She says that she's going to quit smoking now too though to make it easier on him--I sure hope she does.

By the way, Phil, Avril Lavigne is hot. I'm sure it's weird for you, but you should be proud of the boy. He could do a lot worse.

Theres an incentive for your stepmother to change her own habits now though, so hopefully its easier for the both of them.

Yeah Rocky, also from me all the best mate! No matter how unhealthy or how large the possibilities are of a heart attack, you never hope it happens! Good luck.
