Strat, I've decided to dust of the guitars after not playing for way too long. The rehab on the arm, as well as some other issues. Anyway.... Since I'm going to have to restring both guitars, I was thinking of trying a different brand as well as a different gauge. I've always used D'Addario super lights .009-.042's. I'm thinking of trying Fender Super Bullets in either regular (.010-.046), or mediums (.011-.049). Nickel wound steel for both durability and tone. Since I have to re-string anyway, I thought I might try something new. Would like your input, especially on the gauges. Thanks! The bridge on the Mexican Strat is just a standard bridge, the American Strat has roller saddles like this:

No doubt. He could start up a 1-man blackmetal band with that thing.

Yeah, nice bridge piece and treble pickup.
I'll get back to you this evening, Strat.

You have to wonder where this kid got his sense of humour ... ;D

Black Metal Zappa? Could it be Zapeth? How about Cradle of Zappa or Emperor Zappa? Maybe Zappoth?

I like "Black Zapeth."
Glad you're dusting off the guit fiddles, Strat! I'm not very brand-loyal when it comes to strings - I think you can pay a lot for not a lot more value (within one brand's lines, too) I would go with 10s, though. 9s are too pitch-sensitive to both pressure and attack, for me, they lose their tone too fast and are prone to break. Go to Musician's Friend for strings - they're about half the price of other retailers.

I've always had trouble with breakage and tone loss, but didn't want to go too heavy. I'm gonna give the 10's a try. And you're right about Musician's Friend...I get a lot of my shit there.

You probably know this Strat, but if the breaks tend to occur in the same place like at the bridge, and you can't feel or see any burrs, a little pencil graphite might help. Same with the nut. Shouldn't be any bridge problems on the US Strat with that bridge, though.

Yeah Strat, if I'm gonna break a string, it's gonna be the "B" or high "E". Only happens on the Mex Strat. The US Strat also has a roller type nut. If I get time later today, I'll try the macro function on my camera and try to post a close-up. Have to get my tux back (youngest bro got married this weekend).
Good call on the graphite. Yes, I knew about that, but it completely didn't even occur to me. The Mex Strat could use some, especially at the nut. Thanks for the heads ups man.

CHILDREN ...!! Eldest Son was hellbend on buying his guitar from a store in DULUTH, Minnesota advertising on ebay even though I tried to convince him it was not a smart move to buy something brand new from the States, 3 thousand miles away !! Asked him if he had checked stores in Montréal but according to him, nobody IN THE WHOLE WORLD carried that model I tried to tell him that if anything broke on his bass nobody here in Canada would honor the warranty but it was like trying to talk with Peter Townsed after a Who concert !! Took me 3 minutes on the Net to find the store in Montréal that carry that brand and shoot them an Email about the disponibility and price of the "beast" ... Just got the reply that the article is in stock and sell for a lot cheaper compared with the U.S. store once you added the currency rate, customs tax - Free Trade !?! What Free Trade !!! - and delivery charges ... Now we"re going to Montréal during Labor Day weekend and I've restaured my "Father/Hero Status" for at least a few days ...
