My above message meant to say "I sure as hell hope it doesn't die though..."

Is Limewire the most user-friendly of the bunch? It looks pretty easy to use. Which one has the most files online? [and the least amount of ads/spyware].
The reason I'm asking is because my PC is only a couple of years old, and I don't want it being fucked up with ads, viruses and shit.
btw, could someone please post a few of the actual links? [Or PM them to me for whatever reason they might be hesitant about posting them here] I don't want to dowload some copy cat website full of bugs, and all it takes is one wrong letter in the web address.

Limewire's the most user friendly for sure. It's www.limewire.org. www.slsknet.org/ is for soulseek. It's a bit more difficult to figure out, but still very user friendly once you get to moving around. It's also miles easier than limewire to download albums in their entirety. For now I just use soulseek most of the time, leeching off people who fool with torrents and get there first. Which I suppose I'll eventually get around to when Soulseek and Limewire eventually go down. Still use Limewire for that occasional random tune that gets stuck in the head.

I had tried limewire.com, not org. Is that the same thing, or one of those [pretty good in this case, I might add] copycat sites?

I mostly use Soulseek.
I also occassionally deal with torrent sites like dimeadozen and Oink (although I'm having a bitch of a time getting my ratio up, so my days on Oink are probably numbered).

Hmm...looks about the same to me.
I'd advise getting AVG free on your computer, which you can get from download.com. It's also good to keep Microsoft Anti-Spyware updated. Whenever I start to download something with bugs, I ALWAYS get a warning from AVG telling me that something's up, and it quits downloading without my permission.
I've never had trouble with Soulseek, but yeah, make sure you're protected before you dive into limewire.

Cool. I'm definitely dowloading AVG.
Napster was the best. You could find anything over there. Damn you Lars Ulrich!

I download torrents almost exclusively. It's the way to go.

Is the correct address for that www.bittorrent.com ? I think I'm just gonna download all 3 (bt, soulseek, limewire) and use all of them until I figure out which one suits me most.

These guys are assholes. There's a bittorrent and a bittorents. Which one is the real deal?
As for the limewire.com/org thingy, it looks like they're the same thing after all. I pressed "download" on .org and was directed to the .com address.

A torrent is a type of file, BitTorrent is just a site that host them. There are tons of sites like this. A torrent is just a little XX KB file that's like a link to another file or group of files. You need a special program to open the torrent, which then allows you to download what it's pointing to. It may sound like a lot of work, but it's pretty automatic. And once you get set up, it's pretty much a no-brainer. And it's hella fast. I downloaded the first season of Deadwood (4+ GB) in about 2.5 hrs.

I use Azureus as my BT client, that or Bitornado are probably the best. Oink is a bitch but if you can keep your ratio up there's a ton of cool shit. I keep D/Ling things that nobody else wanted I guess and they banned me.

Utorrent is the best torrent client. It's pretty easy to keep a good ratio on Oink. The trick is to partially download a popular discography and seed it forever.

I have 7 or 8 Oink invites if anyone wants any. As long as you d/l stuff that's somewhat popular, particularly newer stuff to start, and seed it for a week or two you should be okay. Lunatic's right about d/ling discographies, but you just can't d/l too much to start with or you'll fuck your ratio. I've u/led about a gig of the Neil Young discography, and about half a gig each of the Pitchfork 70s and 90s comps, all in the last 48 hours since I had to reinstall uTorrent.
It also helps to upload stuff every once in a while. I have a 320 gb upload to 80 gb download ratio right now.... but I've also kept my torrent client open 24/7 for about 8-10 months now.

Really it's the best site out there for getting music, and they're making it easier to stay on good grounds ratio-wise. It's all a matter of whether or not you're willing to leave your torrent client open a decent amount of time.
I've used Soulseek maybe twice in the last month, and even then it was only to allow others to get stuff from me.
