So far, I think one of the best new records of the year is Cat Power's "The Greatest". This album is absolutely beautiful and is definitely going to be on my end of year list already. Also, the new Jenny Lewis record (singer for Rilo Kiley) is a very nice record that might be on my list at the end of the year as well.
Also really digging on the Pipettes, which as it looks, this year might be the year of the female after 2005 seemed overtly male.

I’d like to see CRASH take some. It’s been all but ignored & it was sooooo damn good. Guess the racist cop wasn’t gay enough. /taste the bitterness.

For the first time in a long time, I couldn't be more unsurprised and more bored by the nominations for Oscars this year. Heavy handed shitty film-making seems to be the theme of 2005.

The Pipettes are basically your standard 60s girl sound with some modern stuff, like some light electronics, thrown in. I think it's pretty magical myself.

What's with the top movies and top directors nominations all being from the same flicks?
Also, what's with this whole girl-group redux trend they're pushing lately?

Second you there Skvor. Had enough of the push to see Russell crowe or Heath Ledger taking out awards here down under, secretly enjoying them being upstaged by a fat Paul Williams-lookalike. Rather see Tom Cruise get pelted at the Razzies.

Plus, this means less Meg White publicity and less photos. Less publicity photos, but she's modeling in those Marc Jacobs ads, so you should be seeing plenty of her.

If there is a redux in the girl group sound I will be the first one front and center. It's much more refreshing to me than much that is mined for music these days.
