Rocky that full Loose Fur album is out if you're interested. Oh, I'm well aware that the whole thing has leaked already. But I've found that in the past, when I've downloaded a whole album ahead of time, it's kind of taken the fun out of it's release. So the only track I've listened to as of now is the one that I heard Tweedy do solo when I saw him in November. I'm gonna be strong and wait for the real release for the rest of it. I'm assuming you saw the Ann Arbor show, Rocky? Anything particularly remarkable about that show that might warrant a guy to download it? I've got his Minneapolis show that I think was the tour opener and I love the mix of the Wilco stuff with things I don't have from Uncle Tupelo, Golden Smog, etc. He's very, very candid at this concert as well. Reminds me of why he's such a good interview. Plus, his son comes out on a track as well. Great stuff.

Encore 2:

It was a great show, but I don't know how it compares to Minneapolis. However, I know that both versions of the A2 show that are circulating have Glenn Kotche's solo set recorded as well, and that was amazing! I say, download the show for Glenn's set if nothing else.

Yeah, I'll be buying both of those. I fear a bit for both acts though, since they both hit their peak some time back and have been sliding ever since.

That Placebo is not bad but they plateaued a couple albums ago.

There's no doubt in my mind at all that they're incapable of releasing anything on a par with Without You I'm Nothing, which was top drawer all the way through and the title track alone was sublime enough to impress the hell out of Bowie. The third album was 2 or 3 top singles and nothing else. The last album was slightly better but still patchy as hell, although with some great songs like "Special Needs" and "This Picture"

"This Picture" is textbook Placebo. Great track.

Oh man, Placebo's Without You I'm Nothing is cringe-worthy garbage. I used to dread that shit coming on the radio all the time.
Black Market Music had some solid songs and it really surprised me that a band I hated so much could actually fork out some good tunes.
Never cared enough to hear the last one.
Need to get home and listen to that Racantours bit...

Okay, some thoughts on those two Racanteurs tunes:
"Steady As She Goes"
It's got Jack White on vocals, but this is pretty obviously a Brendan Benson composition, or at least Jack White trying to sound like Brendan Benson (for some reason). The affected vocals are a little overdone. Anyway, it's a decent song. Pretty much exactly what I was expecting this band to sound like. Poppy, with some punchy guitars. Jack Lawrence is holding down the bass like a champ.
"Store Bought Bones"
This is a little different. I'm not really sure what to make of the vocals on this, and the guitar stuff is pretty all over the place too. I'm not sure if this is really cool, or just a little too incoherent. And then the guitar solo...that solo is just so distinctly Jack White. Good to know he's laying it down instead of that Benson hack. Wasn't expecting it in this song though, although I think it manages to work somehow.

Yeah, like I too made notice on the Influential Board, the first Raconteurs single is very distinctly sounding like Benson's work. It's a good song, very catchy. The b-side seems to be just that. Probably not album quality, but too good to totally waste. Supposedly they're going to tour and do the whole rig-a-ma-roll so I'm interested to see just how much time everyone spends on this band. Jack White is always working on 3 things at once, but I've already read somewhere where the lead singer of the Greenhornes was asked what he thought of the band and was a bit concerned. Can't fault anyone for wanting to work with Jack White right now, but everyone's other projects are so good. Plus, this means less Meg White publicity and less photos.
