What's with the top movies and top directors nominations all being from the same flicks? Also, what's with this whole girl-group redux trend they're pushing lately? i ain't heard a damn thing about no girl-group redux. i think you're making that up. Well, the Stylus weekly article is about girl-group sound. P4k had a piece on it recently. Rhino released a well-acclaimed box set last year. I swear I've seen talk of modern girl groups somewhere or other. I dunno. Maybe not a "redux", but there's definite heightened focus on reexamining it.

Stylus rules! Everyone SHOULD have a stylus in the house--on the TURNTABLE!
Just listen to some Shangri-Las and be done with it! I would start with a song by them called "Sweet Sound of Summer"

The only Grammys' redeeming value would be for a major "Maria Carey Wardrobe malfunction"

I think the new Belle and Sebastian record is going to be on the list as well for the end of the year already. It looks like Matador Records is going to be represented nicely in my list, with the new Cat Power, Belle and Sebastian, and god willing, the new Mogwai. This year has already been a killer year and just in the month of Jan.
My record of the week this week is Judith Jullierat's "Sopliloquy". It has a nice older Cabaret Voltaire/TG Sheffied sound that I think is quite compelling.
