Thanks for posting that Sloan track, Doc. I heard there was an album coming but didn't know when and hadn't heard anything from it. I like.
Unfortunately, I've got to agree with Riley that a 30-song disc worries me a bit...

An album shouldn't be any longer than ten songs.
Who the fuck's Christina?

Aguilera (sp?). Duh.
No opinion on her. I'm not even sure if I've ever heard anything she did.

I suspect you guys are right about the 30 songs (two more on the iTunes version, btw).... Although, just about three years since the last album; all four guys writing again – they'd actually only have to write about three decent songs each per year. Should be theoretically possible if unlikely in practice, no?
Riley’s spot on about Jay, btw...

New Christina sounds like...old Christina, but with better marketing.
Listening to new Sloan right now. Yikes on 30 songs, but at the same time, I won't really mind.

Yeah it's funny how I constantly shit on bands who release multi discs with too many songs, until it's a band I like, then it's fine.

All right Ryo, that Natsumen album was incredible. I guess it's live (and the quality is incredible as such), but is it just a bunch of old songs or new or what?

I was wondering about that myself. It sounds like it was recorded in the studio, with some audience cheering spliced onto the ends of the songs. If it's all live, that makes it even more incredible.

New Christina sounds like...old Christina, but with better marketing. I really have to disagree here. This record sounds like nothing she has ever done before. And the marketing was way more laid back than the avalanche for her last dirrty foray into music. Remember that onslaught? Whether you like "pop" or not - this is just an excellent tune. And I agree that is one of the years best singles. Although I wish someone in her camp would have ixnayed(sp) the way too big implants. Ands yes - piglets - there is such a thing of implants being too big!

No, I'm not talking about the mainstream marketing. They've been working their way all over the hipster community to ensure that she gets the "Toxic"/"Since You've Been Gone" "It's Okay For Indie Kids To Like This Pop Song" award of 2006. It's been a campaign at credibility and establishing her as "not just another." The Drrty campaign never touched a guy like me, but this has been all over my "circles" like it's the new Radiohead or something.
Which basically makes me more nauseous than, say, remakes of my favorite movies, and you know how I love to bitch about that.

Um, I think you are the only one taking it that way. Relax already, seriously - way too much thought into how you should react to a song. Thats never good.

Well, it's a pretty evident, obvious marketing campaign. Don't see what the stretch is. I'm always one to pay attention to how things are being fed to me. Don't see the problem with calling that out...if I liked the song, I'd like it regardless.

Huh? I dont get it. Do htey have a "Christina" thing going on there that we don't know about? Weird. I see nothing here. And I dont care if you like the song.

Well said, Phil. On to music that actually interests me.
luke, Fuzz - The album was recorded live, unless they're lying to me on the liner notes ("recorded at the Shibuya Club Quattro and Shimokitazawa Club Que"). I should be so lucky as to be able to seem them at the fucking Que these days, which probably holds about 300 people at the most. I hadn't really followed this band until this record (though I did buy their first album - I just didn't like it all that much and haven't really listened to it a whole lot), but I think the deal was that these were songs that they played live regularly, but had never recorded. And I seem to recall someone saying to me that one of the songs was a BOaT cover. BOaT being the band that Natsumen's guitarist used to play in, and one that I'm shamefully ignorant of - though I do remember them getting good press when they were around.
Glad you're liking the album, of course. It's my top contender for the Best Album of 2006 award, though bonobos is right up there too. It would absolutely kill me to have to deny that honor to one of those two records.
