I want to say, HHH sucks balls comapred to Stars. true. Stars are probably the next best band to BSS in this bracket. Which means even if they get past HHH, they're not going much further, which is too bad.

Stars are actually better than BSS.

I actually was waiting for you to say that Drum. I think this might be the first time I've ever thought you were wrong about pretty much anything Doc. So yeah. You're wrong

Riley, I don’t mean to take anything away from BSS at all. A record like You Forget It In People is absolutely one for the ages. But to me, Stars has tapped into something even more exceptional. Robert Fripp used to talk about a form of popular culture which addressed "the creature we aspire to be". Nick Cave talks about "saudade" and "duende". I think no matter how you describe it, Stars has it in fucking spades.

Don't listen to him. He's from Newfoundland. They club baby seals.

LOL, Riley. Though if you weren’t just a mainlander you’d realize that clubbing baby seals has been illegal since before The Joshua Tree was released.

What's the closing date on first-round voting? I still have to cram in some learning on at least 6 bands here: Fembots, The Dears, DFA 1979, Black Mountain, Tegan/Sara and The High Dials, and that's going to take 3 or 4 days. Or shall I just coin-flip?
Jeez, my next 2 were going to be Novil-whatever and This Most Serene Republic and they ain't even up there.
At least I've now heard that Stars album, which is surprisingly wonderful.

I won't lead your votes friend, but you would probably really like The Dears (regardless of their pairing with Metric - so you should definitely do some homework here sooner or later). Heavy Smiths influence at most turns. Dipped and rolled in misery often enough you should feel right at home.
Can't see you liking DFA more than Wolf Parade, or Tegan & Sarah more than The Stills (Interpol lite from Montreal and relocated to NY).
High Dials are cool, but that one's not even close. Black Mountain are boring.
fwiw.

Yeah if you like bands that club seal pups. Absolutely. BSS would never club seal pups. Ever.
