Shit, Don...after that sorta backstory I had to watch the clip...and that Mr Reiss had a wonderful touch there. I think I remember you mentioning him before....the list of musicians (and genius-level a whole lot of them) who simply felt they weren't getting anywhere and followed that route is fucking staggering. But damn that Miller kid PLAYS his heart out, especially on that Regis-hosted thing! I haven't seen anyone play the harp that way, from the BODY, in a lo-o-ong time. well he might not be a Howard Levy in the finesse/skill department but LD can blow up a show --- my thing is that I've seen him do it SO many times that I kinda know what to expect. Still, it'd be something if they won the thing....for our lil' burg here of 60,000 we could add their name to the roster with GnR's Axl & Izzy plus Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon. Musicianship-wise though, I keep expecting our local guitar whiz Michael Kelsey to get more attention (tho' I did see him in Guitar Player magazine as winner of their National Guitarmageddon contest). Kelsey feeds off the spirit of the late Michael Hedges but takes that acoustic on a far rockier ride, bolstering his one-man army with electronic effects and trickery. Check out this link and you'll see an example of how he builds up his own backing live on stage and then gets to wankering away: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEHNNGgOeCs&search=michael%20kelsey

Has anyone posted this before? New to me. Tv On The Radio with Reznor (NIN) and Murphy (Bauhaus) doing "Dreams". Pretty fucking cool even if it's old news.

Here's a YouTube links of them on the show jamming out the Bill Wither's tune "Use Me": www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdN8OxQzCzc which also includes a classic moment of judge Piers Morgan reducing young LD to tears by telling him he should go it alone and leave his older guitar playing brother on the wayside. Made for some great TV as LD told him basically to shove it. Gotta admit, the first thing I thought when I saw the clip was "God, this is so tacky" (the overenthusiastic audience, the whole setting) but this is television so what do you expect. But yeah, the kid is phenomenal. I do kind of agree with that prick judge - his brother's vocals do absolutely nothing for me (supreme musicianship from the backing band though). However, his demeanor after the prick judge said his piece won me over. That was truly an "awwwww....." moment. Here's some live Quruli clip. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wyRHF-vBV8I'm gonna conveniently ignore the fact that they're starting to suck now, because they certainly don't suck in this video. They used to have an American drummer who I absolutely loved, but sadly he left the band. And their lead guitarist plays a flying V! Come on, don't try to tell me that that's not awesome.

They used to have an American drummer who I absolutely loved, but sadly he left the band. And their lead guitarist plays a flying V! Come on, don't try to tell me that that's not awesome. First gotta say that Quruli tune was about spot-on perfect! Great powerpop undertones and, well, just pulled off nicely -- one of those songs that catches you from the getgo (and yeah, dig the Flying V indeed!). As for the Miller Brother's performance on America's Got Talent, I wasn't too grabbed by the choice of "Use Me" as I don't think Cole has it in him to sing 'funky' enough to pull it off as they were trying to play it. The whole family band played a free concert here in Lafayette last night and the kid was a lot better in the more bluesier tunes. LD I'll have to say has grown on the harp if for increased stamina if anything. The 12-y/o blew out some hellacious moments that left his face red....couldn't help to see John Popper in there. Still think he has a way to go working on his finesse tho'. That's been my problem with the whole band the past few years --- most every tune is full ballsout, cranked to 11, "les'-see-how-fast-we-can-turn-this-mutha-out" sort of attitude. The fuckin' older brother guitarist was practically shredding on "The Thrill Is Gone" fer krist's sake!

I can't wait to see that. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until I get homw, since You Tube gets blocked here at work.

In case you were wondering, it's a live version of "Unseen Power of the Picket Fence."

OK, that's bizarre... YouTube is normally blocked here too, but I always try the links anyway because once in a blue moon they work. I have no idea why that is, but this was one of those times. Awesome.

Watched this earlier this morning. Awesome. Pavement were the best band of the 90's.
