I love VH1. I can't stand that "I Love the 70s/80s/90s" garbage because it's mostly just people who don't love said generations and make fun of them. And I have no interest in modern celebrities whatsoever. But for the most part, when it comes to my favorite sleazy television network, it's VH1 by a mile. Best Week Ever and most of the Celebreality shows...gold. Not to mention the occasional countdowns of "awesomely bad songs" or metal or whatever. Usually pretty ignorant stuff, but fun as hell to watch. VH1 had a cool program on the other night called "the Drug Years" that focused on the youth and pop culture of the 1960's.

Behind the Music is probably one of the best things to ever be on television though. I have to say that that show is totally awesome. I will also admit that I was addicted to Supergroup because I'm a huge Scottie Ian fan. I thought that show was hilarious.

For reasons now unknow, I used to think Jimi Hendrix was way overrated. I now realize I was a complete idiot.
I was warmed up to him (after really just hearing his classic rock radio songs like: "All Along the Watch Tower, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, etc...) to a song called "Freedom". The song featured what IMO is the best Hendrix line-up w/ Mitch Mitchell on drums and Billy Cox on bass. Shortly there after I heard 'Band Of Gypsies' (w/ Cox and Buddy Miles on drums) and was really impressed too. I then got 'South Saturn Delta' which is basically a B-side Hendrix album and features all of the line-ups -- Mitchell/Redding, Miles/Cox, and Mitchell/Cox -- and was floored. The songs on that album I liked better then the singles/hits, and from that point on have been a massive Hendrix fan (he's up there w/ the Beatles, Kinks, and Pearl Jam for me, and I think I like him more than the latter two....). Anyway, if anyone here doesn't have 'South Saturn Delta' and is not crazy about, and/or sick of Jimi's 'hits', check this album out for a different view on rock's best guitarist.

I will also admit that I was addicted to Supergroup because I'm a huge Scottie Ian fan. I thought that show was hilarious. The best part on all of Supergroup was when Baz was ranting and raving about all the high quality wine in the house, and was swishing this one particular wine around in his mouth talking about how delicious and high quality it was. This goes on for about a minute until Scott Ian comes down, grabs the bottle, and says something like, "Dude, this is Ol' Shitty, we used to drink it on the corner in high school. It's like, two bucks at the gas station." Had me rolling.

Dude what had me rolling was the guy from Biohazard kicking Bach's ass. I want that show to come out on DVD soon so I can buy it. It was hilarious.

nice subject for a thread.....let's see, I use to abhor Smashing Pumpkins...everytime I heard Corgan's whiny voice I wanted to take away his fruit loops and put him in time out!!..but I bought a 2-CD best of a few years ago (as I've always liked 1979) and though his voice still somewhat grates on me, I was pleasantly engaged in the musical talent.........but some songs still grate (e.g., that 'vampire' song)
Then, I was fairly unimpressed with OK Computer and Radiohead as a phenomenon...but I joined these boards and The Bends was recommended to me, and I loved it....so since then I have Hail to the Theif, Amnesiac, and Kid A...think I like Amnesiac the best......
Now, one band I have never liked and I can guarantee you I will never "change my mind" is Aerosmith......can't stand them!!

Amen, brother, Aerosmith is atrocious.
I still like Smashing Pumpkins, but it's the early stuff for me and not much else. I absolutely hated most of Mellon Collie and thought that it should have been paired down into a single album. The production on that album is terrible too and you can thank Butch Vig for making Corgan tolerable vocally, which is something that he got back with on Zwan and his solo record. I'm very curious about the new Pumpkins record, I really am. I think it will be pretty cool, but again, I could be eating my words on that one like I will with Metallica.
I will say that album that almost did it for me for a band I love at first was "Sandinista" by the Clash. When I first heard it, I was playing with my friends in a punk band and I immediately claimed that it was hokey crap and that the Clash was responsible for shit like Rancid. Well............I think that "Sandinista" NOW may be my favorite Clash record out of all of them.

Saying that makes Luke cry.
I agree. Mellon Collie was overblown & full of fluff, it makes an awesome single disc.
Sandinista! isn't just a great album, its their best. There, I said it. Its the truth. Handle it or leave the room.

Sandinista! is great but not their best. Looks like you'll have to throw me out.
Mellon Collie should have been a single album? Please. I remember when they did that to Use Your Illusion I & II. Even that has filler and I still wouldn't have it any other way than a 2-disc.

Oh, Melon Collie has filler but the overblown scope is one of the things I like about. I wouldn't take one song off of it....in fact I have a CD with all the B-sides as a third disc. Some of those B-sides should totally have been on the album.

Oh, why don't you all go marry Billy Corgan, then. He can serenade you with such killer tracks as Cupid de Locke.

Dude, if the whole album had been "Cupid de locke", that would have been a masterpiece. I also have the B-Sides Boxset, "The Aeroplane....." and I have to say that I also love much of that way more than the album. Still, it's not bad, just not that good to me.
