It's always surprised me how these two bands' careers ran parallel to each other. Genius frontman too big for his britches, internal tensions, roughly the same output, both incredibly influential. I vote for Pavement.

I had a dream last night that I met Stephen Malkmus, and I had to explain to him why I didn't choose him to do vocals for my new album. He didn't seem very happy about it.

I like the Pixies too. I just like Pavement more. Especially right now, since I've been on a bit of a kick lately.
And except for Teenager of the Year (which I adore), I prefer Malkmus' solo efforts to Frank Black's. Not that that was the question. I'm just saying.
