I'd rather listen to either the Pixies or Pavement than anything from Plant and Page, et al. Ditto. This is so right... btw, Zeppelin own all these bands combined, including the Clash. ... and this is so, so wrong.

I'm disappointed that the result has been so close. A paltry 5-vote margin? Jesus. This should've been a landslide. Yeah, I agree. ;D

Heh. This is a landslide though, isn't it? The Pixies have twice the votes that Pavement has.
I voted Pixies btw.

BTW, Navarro is 10 times the guitarist Jimmy Page was. I don't even think this is english...it looks like it but it can't be.

That statement was complete and utter nonsense. Unless he meant it from a technical point of view and not as a songwriter. But even so, I'd rather listen to the worst Zep song than the best virtuoso guitar solo from that Navarro wanker.

He's not even better from a technical POV.

I'm pretty sure even Navarro would have a good laugh with that statement.

Navarro is much better from a technical point of view. Page was often pretty sloppy. Navarro was also much more creative, IMO. I guess songwriting-wise depends on taste, but to argue that Page was a better technical guitarist is just plain nonsense.
And I like Zeppelin. Just not as much as you old farts do, I guess.
Oh, I should clarify that I'm speaking specifically about Navarro's work with Jane's Addiction. I like the album he did with RHCP (I think it's quite underrated actually), but I would never argue that album as any part of legacy for him. And his solo album...well, the lyrics are pretty bad. He writes some great music, but he should leave the lyric penning to Perry/Ant/whoever.

That being said, Joey Santiago is better than both of them.

Have you ever heard Dave Navarro play? He's one of the most technically proficient guitarists around. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean he can't play.

Or are you disputing Santiago? Santiago isn't as technically proficient, but wildly creative.

Maybe I need to give it another listen then, I don't remember him impressing me any. Yeah, Santiago's great, but I think you're seriously underestimating Page's guitar playing and it's influence on rock guitar. His parts on the studio stuff are immaculate, a little sloppy live maybe but still pretty impressive...and who isn't a little sloppy live?

Name a track or two you think really show off Navarro, please.

Have you ever heard Dave Navarro play? He's one of the most technically proficient guitarists around. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean he can't play. Mariah Carey, technically speaking, has a wider vocal range than Kate Bush. That doesn't necessarily make her a better singer.
