That's two wrong people in complete agreement with themselves. Considering the source that must mean Ken and I am right! Boo-Yaa!

I ended up voting for Chuck D. Mainly b/c I think PE was the greatest rap group of all time...
Q-Tip was pretty good too.
I still think Kane should've been considered....
For what it's worth my tops would be something like: Chuck D Q-Tip Rakim Kane OutKast Ghost Face Killah GZA Biggie 2Pac Run-DMC Beastie Boys

Tribe was really the first hip hop I really got into and on the those first three Q-Tip is just the best...he's smooth and laid back, sometimes he's funny other times he serious but always on point. The albums after he (they) slipped considerably. I guess the rapper I most look forward to these days is probably Mos Def, who took over from Tip(who picked it up after KRS-One) as the smart smooth just all around MC, IMO. I also don't think in seventeen years De La Soul have put out a bad album and that counts for a lot in hip hop...matter of fact I don't think I can name another long time artist or group who hasn't put out at least one dud...The Roots don't have any bad albums, Organix isn't very good but they seem get better with each release, though Black Thought isn't exactly the draw for The Roots.
Simply because I think they deserve at least one vote, I vote for De La Soul.

See, I am firmly in the camp that says Erib B. & Rakim's "Paid In Full" is the best rap album ever, and that "Follow The Leader" is a fantastic follow up. All the things that people say about PE, about how they revolutionized rap, and inspired copycats, and produced great rap albums and not just singles can be said about Eric B. & Rakim. They're the overall best, IMO.
Kweli is still my pick from the list up there.

The bits Kane and Ice Cube do on PE's "Burn Hollywood Burn" are classic.
"Ice Cube is down with the PE. Now every single bitch wanna see me"

I was really hoping that Matthew Nelson's middle name started with a C so I could make an argument for MC Nelson. Alas, it does not.

Pac just always seemed to me to be one of the default answers...I know a lot of respectable hip hop fans who'd say him, so I know it's me but I've just not heard that separates him from the pack...granted the pack is that of great rappers but nothing that elevates him to the top of that list. Twista does suck, but he can rap fast. Twista is the Yngwie Malmstein of rap. As for Pac, I just can't look at him objectively. In the year or so before All Eyez On Me came out up to probably a year or so after his death, well, I can't speak for the rest of the world, but where I lived, he was so fucking huge. We didn't have a Beatles or a Zeppelin in high school, but we had Pac and I have trouble imagining how anything could be much bigger. EVERYONE I knew loved the guy. You went out with the black dudes, you heard tons of Pac. You went out with the country boys, there was "Bury Me a G" sandwiched inbetween "A Country Boy Can Survive" and "Freebird." You went to some little skater punk party and there was some shitty little three chord punk band playing a shitty ska version of "All Eyez On Me" or "Shorty Wanna Be A Thug." There was every little preppy blond girl chanting the lyrics to "N-I-G-G-A" at every house party you went to. You heard "Hit'em Up" on the way to every fight, not to mention all the douchebags who'd inserted their enemies names in that great "Get in the Ring" of hip-hop. You walked in a bathroom stall and there were the lyrics to "Starin' at the World" or "How Long Will They Mourn Me." Even the metalheads wouldn't shut up with Don Kiluminati theories. I remember a group of whitebred Southern belle cheerleaders in tears when he died. In short, the guy was omnipresent, just fucking massive. And to top it off, folks like Rakeem and Big Daddy Kane just did not exist down here. Hell, most people hadn't heard of Biggie outside of "Hit'em Up", and those who had remembered him more for the song he did with Pac. All we really listened to was West Coast or Texas stuff, up until the No Limit garbage got overblown. So it's hard for me to listen to most of the "New York classics" on anything but an intellectual basis, really.

The bits Kane and Ice Cube do on PE's "Burn Hollywood Burn" are classic. "Ice Cube is down with the PE. Now every single bitch wanna see me" I agree...do you have Cube's first album? PE/the bombsquad produced it. IMO, Cube was the best MC from NWA. His first few albums are really good. That Kane spot on "Burn Hollywood Burn" is spot on. His rapping style is why I suggested he be included here. Overall I think he's a better guest MC than stand alone, but when he guest, it's normally one of the strongest songs on any given album. He's to rap like a six man is the the NBA.
