Oh yeah, I don't dislike Petty, just not a big fan. He has enough songs I know that I should be entertained at least. I just hope his set doesn't eat into the length of Pearl Jam's too much, as it's listed as a co-headlining gig I think.

Pearl Jam is opening for Mr. Petty, so they aren't playing full sets....Here's the one from last night: PJ Set: Corduroy, Severed Hand, Hail Hail, Love Boat Captain, World Wide Suicide, Marker In The Sand, Given To Fly, Even Flow, Light Years, Not For You, Small Town, Come Back, State Of Love And Trust, Glorified G, Black/We Belong Together, Life Wasted, Alive *Ed w/Tom Petty on The Waiting during Petty set. Ken, that was the first time they played "Light Years" this tour....

I saw last night that Pearl Jam is doing a storytellers show on VH1 this saturday. That might be alright. Hopefully it will be good; I saw the set list and it's just OK...no real nuggets, just songs like "Betterman" and "Alive".....Although, it will still be better than anything else on VH1 at the moment....I really don't watch much TV, but when I do channel surf, I never see music on either MTV or VH1. Is it just me, or is this like the first music thing/event VH1 has done this year?

I know that Pearl Jam is playing first, but supposedly the Summerfest shows are co-headlining gigs. Probably a shorter set, but not an "opener" set really, at least I hope.

Yea not sure if they're technically "opening", but out of respect for Mr. Petty, PJ is playing first at all the gigs....So far this tour Pearl Jam is averaging like 30 songs a gig, but w/ Mr. Petty they're only playing 15 to 17 songs, and no encores....

As if we needed another reason why Pearl Jam is the best band in the world today..... Pearl Jam concert helps kids' gardens grow Friday, May 19, 2006 By Troy Reimink The Grand Rapids Press Pearl Jam to kids: Keep on rocking in the Green world.
The band, playing tonight at Van Andel Arena, surprised local nonprofit Mixed Greens with a big gift -- a dollar for every ticket sold.
With about 10,000 tickets sold so far, the local organization, which teaches organic fruit and vegetable gardening at local public schools, stands to reap a hefty windfall.
"It was pretty unexpected," said Lisa Rose Starner, Mixed Greens executive director. She was contacted earlier this month by people associated with the band and informed of the donation.
On its North American tour, which started last week, the rock band is giving a dollar from each ticket sale to a charity or nonprofit organization in every city it plays.
Recipients so far include Toronto's White Ribbon Campaign, an organization of men working to end violence against women; Albany's Grand Street Community Arts, which is trying to build an arts center in the city; and Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness in Hartford, a patients' rights service.
"We decided we wanted to put one dollar from every ticket sale into the city that we're going to, into a foundation or local organization that we thought was pretty cool," said Mike McCready, one of Pearl Jam's guitarists.
"We thought that was a super-cool thing, to have kids learn how to do things organically."
The 3-year-old Mixed Greens -- slogan: "Growing kids who grow gardens" -- runs gardens and after-school and summer programs in Grand Rapids at Harrison Park and East Leonard elementary schools and Madison Middle School; and in Wyoming at Taft, Parkview and Rogers Lane elementary schools.
"We just happened to be a perfect fit for the band's giving parameters," Starner said. "There's a lot of demand for making kids healthy."
She said the money from Pearl Jam -- to be donated through its charity establishment, the Vitalogy Foundation -- will help with staffing and getting Mixed Greens gardens into more schools.
In each city, the foundation looks for organizations dedicated to youth, the arts, education, the environment, healthy eating and community health, said Sarah Seiler of Vandenberg Communications, a New York firm hired by the band to handle publicity for the tour and to research charitable opportunities.
"Mixed Greens really helps to foster all of that," Seiler said.
The band is known for participating in political causes, notably the Vote For Change Tour, which sought to rally support for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election.
Disillusioned with that experience, the band turned its focus toward grassroots organizations.
"We will speak our minds, but we also learned we need to focus locally on how our lives are, then act globally out of your local actions," McCready said. "Like, what are the problems in my direct vicinity, and how can I have a positive effect on them?" www.mlive.com/news/grpress/index.ssf?/base/news-29/1148049943124410.xml&coll=6#continue

And I'm off to Milwaukee for the show (and some general bumming around the city).
I don't know the new songs very well, but I'll do my best to put a review of the show together tomorrow night.

Hot damn Bow! Glad you're enjoying 'Pearl Jam' When I first heard it, I was like "wow"....I didn't love it at first, but it was the first time I instantly liked a Pearl Jam album since Yield (1998). "Army Reserve" and "Gone" are still pretty difficult for me, but I still think they're kinda cool songs. "Army Reserve" has an interesting flow, and a really cool outtro (I love the guitar tone). "Gone" I like a lot lyrically, but musically it's been a challenge; it's a slow burn and I'm starting to come around to it. Well, I hope you continue to enjoy, please share your thoughts after you give it a few listens Oh, it's a pretty addictive album as well (can't believe I'm saying that about a Pearl Jam album). A lot of the songs will stick w/ you...I"m always thinking about the infectious "Life Wasted", and "Marker In The Sand" songs....the latter is my favorite on the album.

I did. I've only listened to it once or twice, and it's not bad, but it doesn't really seem all that different than their other stuff I've heard.
