The Special Edition ROTJ has the absolute worst Star Wars moment of all six movies...When they're at Jabba's place and the band place some lame ass song that was totally added for the kidies....it's cheezy as anything I've ever seen, and completely out of place. A horrid, horrid scene.
Overall, I'm kinda with ded. I just think the prequels lack the charm of the originals. They are too polished, too wodden, and in some cases just flat out uninteresting. Plus IMO Lucas went way overboard on CGI and depended on it way too much to carry the new movies. Story should've been priority number 1. IMO its a sad state of affairs when the Clone Wars cartoons tell a better story and feel more like Star Wars than the actual movies. Seriously, Episodes 1 and 2 should have been those Clone Wars cartoons.

The only change in ROTJ SE that I prefer is the victory Ewok song at the end. Fuck that "yub yub" number. Of course, that's not the only thing I would've done: Luke and Leia would not be siblings, Leia would not be the other potential Jedi, Lando's ass would be down in Endor while Han and Chewie's would be on the Falcon (which is where they fucking belong), and speaking of Han: why the fuck is he a nice guy all of a sudden?
Man, its been a while since I've laid down my feelings on the series but all this talk has got me wanting to chime in. My thoughts on the first two prequels remain. They're great technological achievements with many set pieces and money shots (I mean, you can't rule out lack of imagination in this) but they lack the strong narrative and emotional pull that was evident in A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and ROTS. Here's probably what I hate the most: the acting. Its not so much the dialogue but the execution of it: the delivery and how its shot. The dialogue coach used in ROTS (and previous collaborator with Robert Altman) would have been sorely needed here. Editing would have been better too; notice how when someone (Portman in PM, for example) finishes a sentence and that shot is held for a few seconds for no reason. How half-ass! These films are supposed to be well-paced. Keep the fucker moving is all I'm saying.
I'm with Paul in depicting the Clone Wars but I think one film should be devoted to that (maybe the 2nd). What I still want to know is the story behind the splintering of the Jedi and the Sith long ago. Darth Maul speaks of revenge in Phantom Menace, but what the hell is he referring to? What did the Jedi's do (or what the Sith think they did) to inspire such vengeance? And I'm sure there is a comic book or novel that can explain this but to see it in a film would be the balls. I still enjoy ROTS. It flows so smoothly that you will notice the flaws and then forget them.

I don't think that George will make three more post-Jedi films (which was what he'd said back in the late seventies would be the case). He has said, however, that he's looking at doing something for television which would cover the period between Sith and A New Hope -- so I guess that this would hit the origins of the Rebellion, the Emporer and Vader's consolidation of power, etc. Might even show that Obi-Wan and Yoda weren't the only Jedi to survive the coup, etc.
Personally, I'd be more interested in seeing George do something long-form about the origins of the Republic -- the time 1,000 years before Star Wars when there were hundreds of Jedi and Sith running around the galaxy. There'd be absolutely no characters from the six movies, or much to worry about continuity-wise (if it's not in those six movies + Clone Wars, then it's not canon), and it'd be a lot of fun, I think. And a mini-series or single season kind of show would be the perfect medium for George to expand his vision, IMHO. He'd be the perfect television producer -- come up with the big idea and oversee the execution, but hire people who can actually write dialogue and work well with actors to handle those aspects of the project.

Re: your question, Thorn, I agree with Ken that the plan for future film installments won't happen and whatever story there is left to tell is will be done in the planned tv shows (or other mediums, who knows).
I think Lucas, who will no doubt supervise these projects to any extent, will want to move on to other projects. I'd like to see more stuff like THX-1138 from him.

Yep, SW: EP 7, 8, & 9 will not happen in Lucas's lifetime. Perhaps after he leaves this world his children will decide to cash in and make them, time will tell......
The TV series could be cool -- rise of the rebellion, adventures of Han and Chewy, Greedo, Bobba Fett, life on Alderran...I don't know, there are tons of things possible. Hopefully something cool will happen. I too like the idea of a prequel to the prequel series of explaining what went down between Jedi and Sith, and some of that back story. The idea has loads of potential, but so did PM, AOTC, and ROTS.....

Lucas had said in the past he'd consider letting someone else make other movies (based on his notes and script ideas of course) but in recent interviews he's said that that at least that story is done and there will be no more stories involving those characters.
I had actually assumed that was one of the reasons for the TV shows, to create new characters and stories that may one day turn into a new movie franchise. Lucas will never let anyone have the reigns to the Luke/Vader story line.

Lucas has said pretty consistently that the post-Jedi galaxy is for the "expanded universe" guys ... meaning the books, etc. And that does make some sense to me. I think we've gotten enough of the Skywalker saga. And frankly, if he was gonna make more movies about Luke, he should've done it when Hamill was young enough to play the part. After having been type-cast for the last thirty or so years, it would really suck for him to have to watch someone else play the role.
And I agree with DED that Lucas won't ever turn over the Skywalker story to anyone else. That was his tale to tell, he's told it, and now it's done. Unless he thinks of something more that he wants to do with it. Or gets really bored. Or whatever.

The empire strikes back?
"Chewbacca" arrested for head-butting
A Chewbacca impersonator was arrested after being accused of head-butting a Hollywood tour guide who warned the furry brown Wookiee about harassing two Japanese tourists, police said on Saturday.
"Nobody tells this Wookiee what to do," "Chewie" from the "Star Wars" movies said before slamming his head into the guide's forehead, the Los Angeles Times newspaper reported.
The 6-foot, 5-inch-(1.96-metre-) tall 44-year-old man was charged on Friday with misdemeanor battery and later released on $US20,000 ($A26,000) bail, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
"Superman" and other movie and cartoon impersonators were reported to be witnesses to the aggression in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater amid concern that such behaviour could endanger their livelihoods.
Street performers at the world-famous cinema collect tips from tourists by posing for photos, but some are known to turn hostile if they don't get money.
Two years ago, Mr. Incredible, Elmo the Muppet and the dark-hooded character from the movie "Scream" were arrested for "aggressive begging", the L.A. Times reported."

"So even though you're Superman, you didn't do anything to try to stop the Wookie?" "What, are you nuts? Have you seen how big that walking carpet is?!"

Lucas hints at another Star Wars filmGeorge Lucas George Lucas is set to make a "huge" announcement today, with rumours suggesting the director will announce plans for a new Star Wars film. The news comes as celebrations begin around the world to mark the 30th anniversary of the first film. Internet rumours suggest Lucas plans to make a new Star Wars movie set before the recent prequels. According to Chris Brennan, a member the Australian Star Wars appreciation society attending the offcial convention Celebration IV in LA, Lucas let it slip that he was working on a new movie in a recent interview, then tried to cover it up. The film is predicted to be set at the time of the Old Republic, when the Jedi regained control of the galaxy from the Dark Lords of the Sith. Lucas has already confirmed a Star Wars live action TV series will begin filming in Australia next year.

Please hand the reins to someone else, George. It worked well before.
