I’ve got to give Gretzky credit on this one, actually. Ron Maclean interviewed him at length yesterday, after the game, and there wasn’t a hint of 'blame the media'. Quite the contrary; he said they were simply beaten by a better team.

Another real one is gone ...
Legendary hockey ref Red Storey dies at age 88
CTV.ca News
Red Storey, a classic larger-than-life character who won two Grey Cups as an athlete and entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1967 for his refereeing, has died at age 88.
"There is no doubt we are losing a great man," said former Montreal Canadiens captain Jean Beliveau. "In whatever he did, his heart was in the game."
Robin Burns, a former NHL player who grew up in the Notre Dame de Grace neighborhood where Storey lived for decades, said: "You could put him in the top five Canadian athletes of all time."
"They try to take the personalities out of the game now," retired NHL referee Ron Hoggarth told AM640, a Toronto radio station. "When he worked, he was a character."

So we made the top 50 in the Hockeyville contest & also the top 25. To see the film from my town go to www.cbchockeyville.ca/community/whoishockeyville/Then click on Cold Lake in the Northern region section. The only funny part IMO is the pick up game on the ramp when they ran an F-18 by. (blink & you’ll miss it)

So Edmonton's Stanley Cup hopes appear pretty much done but I have to say, Albertans are a classy bunch when it comes to singing the national anthems. The way they sing both of them – and no booing for the opposition anthem like you hear in some buildings. And the way they throw themselves into "O Canada". Well done, guys!!

I was thinking that last night too, Doc. I hate when people boo the other team's national anthem - just so disrespectful. I saw one guy who was so into O Canada he almost looked like he was doing some sort of performance piece - funny, but also sort of charming. Even though I'm sure he was dead drunk. As for the playing... that was just sort of embarrassing. Think that's about the end of the line for the boys in blue.
