Those early Petty-albums still are the best. I didn't really mind his stints with Dave Stewart and Jeff Lynne but his last album was disappointing.
As for U2- Vertigo is being played now so often at various sports events as a back drop, it just totally shits me. Like when you heard Beautiful Day before that in commercials, on sports grounds, like everywhere only that song's much stronger. Rattle & Hum indeed errr, rattles in certain places. Hawkmoon was indeed poor. I remember some of the B-sides in the eighties were a bit bland too (The Three Sunrises) but still listenable. I'd be happy not to hear Vertigo for another year or so but I'm afraid that will be in vain.

Eminem - best: Stan (even though I'm sick of it now, when I first heard it I was blown away by the lyrics. Unfortunately, it was also the song that introduced Dido and her 'vagina music' to the world.) /worst: 'Mockingbird'. Ugh! Nothing worse than an Eminem love song for his daughter. Who gives a f***?
Huey Lewis & the News - I want a new drug / Stuck with you
Santana - Evil Ways / Maria, Maria
Metallica - Eye of the Beholder (this song ROOOCCCKKKSS!!!) / St. Anger
Luther Vandross (RIP) - Honestly, I know nothing about this dude's music apart from that duet with Janet. That's it.
Kenny Loggins/Loggins & Messina - Danger Zone / Footloose
btw, who's Messina?

Eminem - Not a big fan, but I'd have to go with "Lose Yourself" as the best. For the worst, I'll pick "Cleaning Out My Closet". Call me old-fashioned, but somethint about a trailer-trash wigger publicly dissing his own trailer-trash mother in a song just doesn't sit well with me.
Huey Lewis & the News - Best: "She's Heart and Soul"/Worst: "Doing It All For My Baby"
Santana - Best: "Everybody's Everything"/Worst: I have to agree with Kool on "Maria Maria". I despise that song.
Metallica - Best: "Master of Puppets"/Worst: "Turn the Page"
Luther Vandross - Best: "Any Love"/Worst: What else but that horrific remake of the already-horrific "Endless Love" he did with Mariah Carey?
Kenny Loggins/Loggins & Messina - Best: "Watching The River Run" from the L&M days/Worst: The theme from the Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling movie.
note to Kool: Before he became a total Hollywood soundtrack corporate rock sellout in the mid-80's, Kenny Loggins was actually a respectable artist. He was in a folk/country-rock duo called Loggins and Messina in the 70's with Jim Messina, who had already been in Buffalo Springfield and Poco, two of the pioneering bands of California-style country-rock.

OIC. I thought Messina was a chick's name. Like.... Messina Manchester or something. Or was that Melissa?

Wow, all of you who gave it a go on GN'R's worst song have obviously never heard "My World". The old record producers must have been dancing a little too hard with Mr. Brownstone the day they let that song on the album. Best/Worst
Eminem-"Stan"/that new butt song "ass like that" is fairly annoying
Huey Lewis and the News-"Power of Love"/Hip to be Square, crap song and I always thought he was saying 'hit the bead square' when I was a kid.
Santana-"Oye Como Va", I love this song now because I actually know Spanish now, ha, I thought was just singing random jibberish when I was a youngin/Maria Maria is bad and I'm betting the newest stuff is even worse.
Metallica-"Orion" very moody, dark instrumental that fit perfectly into the documentary "Paradise Lost: The Robinhood Hills Child Murders."(and bess bass solo ever)/well for worst I'll take "Enter Sandman" because that's when I knew Metallica were gonna suck hard ever thereafter.
Luther Vandross-"Here and Now"/"Endless Love" and a bunch of the 80's stuff because all the cheesy 80's instruments/sounds took away from his voice.
Kenny Loggins-"Return to Pooh Corner", the one he did with Amy Grant is friggin sweet/worst is "Your Momma Don't Dance", will I be shot if I say that Poison actually did this song better?

Gn'R's "My World" is indeed crap, but I never thought of it as an actual 'song'. If I recall correctly, it only lasts a minute or so... I've always just thought of it as 'Axl's little skit'. Nothing more.
Even so... I still think their cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is vulgar, to say the least. Because of that song, a whole new generation of music listeners think the song goes "Knock, knock knockin' on heaven's dooorwoor, ay, ay, ay, yeah...!".
I'd still take "My World" over that crap any day.

Ah yes, the UYI version of "Knockin'" is indeed vomitous. All the axlisms, gospelly back-up singers are what do the song in. Even at 14 or 15 I remember being so disgusted with how they did the song for the album. You see, I had already heard them do it back in '87 or '88 when they played at The Ritz, NY. It was superb. Easily the best song of their whole set imo and I had absolutely no idea that it was a Dylan song; but that was before Guns had decided to turn themselves into a joke.
