Is it dodgy if John Oates Dog votes for TOOL? He's a huge fan.

Can I get a witness on Alice In Chains?

If TOOL wasn't on the list, Alice In Chains would get my vote, if that counts for anything.

These boards will always be havens for Pumpkins fans, goddamnit! We own around here!
As for AIC, well, I listed them second. Only band I'd probably put in front of them are STP, but they're not on the list, so oh well.
As much as I love Alice In Chains, though, I like that Mad Season album better than anything AIC did, even the mighty Dirt. I'm just not that much of a Cantrell fan. I think he gets a bit too butt rocky at times with the music, and other than "Heaven Beside You," I'm not a fan of any song where his vocals are dominant. His lyrics also look very weak next to Staley's.
I much prefer Staley beside McReady. The music has a darker, smokier, more despairing feel that captures an area of Alice In Chains better than they ever did themselves.
I think that that abyssmal noise Cantrell makes on his solo albums accentuates my point, IMO.
However, Mad Season can't rock out like AIC, and while they can sound just as insane, they never sound as wild. But then Mad Season only made one album...
I'm being nit-picky, though. I mean, I love a LOT of bands, and to put Alice In Chains in third place over ALL of those bands, well, that means I love them quite a bit. They have been the soundtrack to my lowest low and my scariest highs. An excellent, excellent band.
Even at their most popular, they were still underappreciated. Until Staley died, of course, but that always gets a band its due.
I was lucky enough to ALMOST see AIC live, when Staley came in for a few songs during a Cantrell show in Tallahassee during Cantrell's first solo tour. It was everything I'd expect and more. I wish I could have seen the whole band, though, and heard more than just five or so songs.

Mad Season, though...fuck, man, you've got members of Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and the Screaming Trees all meeting in fucking rehab...if that isn't the recipe for one of the greatest, most insane, depressing albums of all time, I don't know what is.

Oh man that was hard. That was not right. I should not be asked to choose a favourite between TOOL, AIC, and SP.
Ended up picking TOOL, although I could just as easily have said AIC or SP. Mostly I felt sorry for Riley.

That's a really tough question...in the end it was between Tool, SP and PJ...A really hard choice...
