listening to a bit of X, after last nights show...here is a synopsis I wrote up on the other board
Hi everyone..quick synopsis/observations of X concert last night:
(1) Their energy, almost more than 20 years after I first saw them is amazing
(2) I was having dinner with my wife on a streetside cafe adjacent to the concert hall, and John Doe walked by....so for the first time in my life when I"ve seen a "celebrity" I said "john doe" and he turned, I shook his hand, and told him I've loved his music for years.......!!!!
(3) Why oh why was there a major mosh/slam pit of many receding-hair male testosteroned 40 year olds?!!.....even Doe called one of them out who was wearing a suicidal tendencies shirt and flipping the bird with both hands constantly......jeez, were these the same idiots who followed X in the early 80s!!..........
(4) Exene, though her stage presence is the same as I recall in the 80s, as not aged well.........I was amazed at, shall I say diplomatically, her substantive girth.....but Billy Zoom looked great and chatted up quite a bit with the audience
(5) Doe was a bit more aloof to the audience then I recall many years ago.....but geez, the guy still gives it his all..............
(6) Nausea, Los Angeles, The Worlds a Mess (It's in my Kiss), Johnny Hit and run Paulene, Soul Kitchen, Sugarlight, The Once over Twice, I'm Coming Over, In this House that I call Home, White Girl, Year 1, Because I do, Riding with Mary, True Love, Blue Spark, We're Desperate, New World, Hungry Wolf, etc etc......a great songlist, though absolutely nothing from the Zoom-less 'Aint' Love Grand" and "See How we Are"......
(7) Just a great show...............

actually i keep on playing Mull of Kintyre and John denver's Country Road a lot too
think it is the whole "home" theme
keeps you stable and that, when you aren't there

John Denver was a goat sacrificing Satan worshipper. I don't have proof, but there's no way your songs are that consistently optimistic and your disposition so genuinely rosey without having somethign to hide.
Play "Grandma's Feather Bed" backwards and I bet you hear hell hounds and tortured souls looped over blood curdling wails. You can almost here it during regular play back if you listen closely.

I dunno, between the very weird pic of PJ Harvey in the latest Spin magazine(at Scotland's T In The Park festival)and then seeing her latest album cover photo when Mary posted it, I think she's morphing into something approximating Iggy Pop....
Man, Riley and Jesus got some kinda strange tastes! Tho photos DO lie on occasion....
The one in Spin is pretty nasssty...

Yeah Roc I know what you mean Polly's looks great in certain shots and then can look really ordinary sometimes but her music never suffers and my girlfriend and I would still like to dance with her in "The Letter" video
