JLLM, I meant to ask you -- have you ever heard a band called Cruxshadow? They do this wonderful cheesy darkwave stuff. I think there's a song about how his mom committed suicide and "although her pain ended, his had just begun.." Ah, so much fun. I'm seeing them next door tonight. Wondered if you'd heard of them. Singer sounds like Peter Murphy. Not heard of 'em samps. I'll try to check them out at some point soon. All cheesy darkwave singers try to sound like Peter Murphy, just about. Which means 90% of modern goth acts are fronted by a tenth rate Bowie-soundalike.

Now listening to the Church - Beside Yourself... lovely little companion piece to their album of last year, "Forget Yourself"
It sounds like they had alot of quieter stuff for the main album which didn't make the cut, because they chose to focus on the louder more spontaneous element of the band's music...
Still this B - Sides collection Yields alot of fine tracks, some of which are among their best stuff... this band has so many good songs up it's sleeves, its not funny!

I met a cute japanese girl once ...
Told me she wanted to keep her shojomaku intact so she couldn't let me put my chinco into her manko up to my kintama but I could paizuri her all night long if I wanted ...
What a shame I didn't understand a word she said then !!

Ditch the godawful "Sweetest Thing" remix and insert their '82 A-side "A Celebration" and you’d improve that U2 'Best Of' 10-fold.

Phil - I knew that someone would make a naughty post like that Drum - Yeah, I wish they had included that song on the best of too. Do you know if there's a CD available that contains it? For the record, me hating the Beatles has nothing to do with their music, or how the music fan community sees them - it's more a direct result of the fact that I hate my job...

To the best of my knowledge "A Celebration" isn’t available on CD, Ryosuke. I really wish they’d have included it on the Best Of; I’m sure long time fans would have really appreciated it and it would have got away from the 'standard issue' feel of the disc. Personally I’d also have dropped a couple songs from Rattle and Hum in favour of some of their earlier material. No way did that record need to be represented by four songs. Ditch "Angel of Harlem" and "When Love Comes to Town" and give me "11 O’Clock Tick Tock" and "Out of Control", you know? Acknowledging October’s existence with "Fire" or maybe "Gloria" would have nice, too.

"Fire" is also my favorite off of October, Drum. Say, do you feel like making another top 50 list? You can include Whale Music this time. I suppose you got my IM, as did everyone.

In honor of thorny's protestations on the Death Metal thread, I'm reviving this here thread Recent listens: Soul Mining - The The Recently snagged a used copy for 500 yen. The only other The The album I owned previously was Mind Bomb, which I absolutely loved, so I was a bit surprised by the minimalist approach on this one. Interesting record though. Summer In Abaddon - Pinback Man oh man, am I loving this CD. In some ways, it's typical US indie rock, but in other ways, it's in a league of its own. Definitely top ten of 2004 material. Amore Del Tropico Ð Black Heart Procession Well Halloween is already over, which we don't really celebrate in Japan anyway, but this is the perfect Halloween record. Antics - Interpol Sure it's an enjoyable CD, but good God, I do not understand why everyone is making such a fuss over this. Honto No Kimochi - Akiko Yano I got this one because I was curious to hear what would come of her collaboration with Quruli (probably one of the leading bands in Japan of the moment, along with Supercar). The collaboration does kind of make sense if you think about it, because it's not that hard to imagine Quruli being Akiko Yano fans, but interestingly enough, the best tracks on this album were the ones she wrote and recorded without the Band That Every Rock critic In Japan Loves. Second Storey - Art Of Fighting All you non-Australians need to go out there and snag this one. Don't believe me? Ask maarts. The Last Thing I Saw Before I Said Goodbye - The Hepburns How on earth is it possible that no one has heard of this band? They easily kick the Manic Street Preachers' collective butts in the best Welsh band contest. Pablo No Koibito - Mayumi Kojima I have to prepare myself for her upcoming show at the Shibuya AX, you see. Speaking of which, virtuoso sax player Naruyoshi Kikuchi will perform with her ONLY for her Tokyo shows (screw the rest of Japan). Which only serves to cement my belief that the world revolves around this ugly mess of a city.

Think I've seen you make this statement before Doc...didn't even go for "Uncertain Smile" on there? I got it when it first came out and though it's been awhile I think I liked pretty much the whole first side....got kinda fucked on the second side. Damn, I wish my turntable was working....
