You have some good tunes there on your computer....
What do you think of Plastic Man?
If you like the early transition stuff, I'd recommend you get Face to Face; it's my second favortie album to Arthur....Speaking of Arthur, if you can download "Brainwashed" and "Mr. Churchill Says" you'll be a happy camper as those are two of the best songs in the entire Kinks Katalog, IMO.

Plastic Man is a fun song...pretty silly. Some of the tranbsistion stuff is pretty spotty for me...honestly I think alot if it gets abit bland.
I haven't heard Brainwashed or Mr. Churchill Says...I make sure to check them out. You probably noticed most of it is the singles with odd album track here and there...I'm not as familiar with their full albums as I'd like to be.

See in a way, the Kinks are a bit silly; maybe it's the British charm, I don't know. I used to think a lot of their songs were joke songs, but really it's just sarcastic writing and that up/down British beat on a good chunk of their songs. I don't find many of their songs (at least from the 60's) bland at all....
Oh, I noticed you don't have any Muswell Hillbillies songs....That album is a bit strange as it mixes country/blues/jazz/ragtime all together. Of all the Kinks albums I have, this one took the longest for me to appreciate, but now that I "get it", it's my #3.
FYI, here's my top 5:
1. Arthur 2. Face to Face 3. Muswell Hillbillies 4. Village Green Preservation Society 5. Lola vs. Powerman and the Money Go Round pt. 1
Something Else, Kinda Kinks, Kink Kontroversy, Preservation Act 1, and Sleepwalkers are all very good as well...
If you send me your email, I'll send those two songs (Brainwashed & Churchill) your way; I'd love to hear what you think....

I meant some the 70's/80's stuff was kind of bland...maybe I missunderstood what you meant by "transistional"...

I really want to dig alittle deeper with The Kinks and for whatever reason just never have...maybe now's the time.

I never did either....One day while at my record store I picked up Face to Face and was pleasantly surprised; then got there first three albums (Kinks, Kinda, Kontroversy), then Arthur, and I was hooked.
There's no time like now to discover / know more about the Kinks.
As Dolly noted earlier...."I think action needs to be taken to reinstate Ray's status as a bonafide Rock legend who is as deserving of our attention and respect as any one of the Beatles or the Stones."

I actually should have clarified the word transition....I was refering to the transition from garage rockers of 1964/1965 to story tellers/observationalist/social commentators around 1965 w/ "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" thru maybe 1972....Then they went into rock opera, then to arena rock, then to 80's pop/metal.

Sounds like they were always in transition.

Sounds like they were always in transition. I suppose they kinda were....all their albums sound pretty different from the other....the golden years are the ones to get (Face to Face, Something Else, VGPS, Arthur, Lola, & Muswell). Each one of those albums varies quite a bit.

Dolly, you can call me anything you want to. Cheers DED Looks like you pretty much got a standard Best of on your PC there. As is always the case with just about any band though, much depth is to be found in album tracks. BTW, nice new Avatar Dolly. Thankyou, yours truly looking a trifle shocked.
